Johnsy and Stu,. The issue I have with the new plans marketing relative their performance is: is this ethical marketing. (I am writing a post about this.) This is not against XTRA or Telecom though, most ISPs seems equally guilty.

the worst part I see is to do with the “maximum data rate your line is capable of”. I live 50 meters from my exchange and my data rate is changed hourly at times from the “max” 7.6 down and the max I have seen of 896 up to absurd levels

In other words, unlimited/flat rate volume. In other words, it is pretty much going to be open slather ADSL from the 26th of October. The limiting factor is now going to be Telecom NZ’s aging ATM backhaul network.

Looks like another round of bullshit. taking us suckers for a ride. The present 3.5 MB speed we are paying for gives us around 800Kbps at the most–very rarely above that. Hope some of the competitors do come out with some realistically
