The Marine Trumpet

A string instrument made by prismatic case of triangular section without handle, about 1.30 m high on which from one to three bowel stringswere strained  which were grazed with the fingers to obtain harmonious sounds. The bow rubbed the strings on the point in which it was touched by the fingers, near the “cavigliere”.

The name “trumpet” refers to his penetrating timbre which reminded just that of a trumpet. The attribute “marine” has not found instead any convincing explanation.
