In 881 after the end of the Carolingian Empire, Ivrea was the capital of a “Marca” which practically included all Piedmont and that is the earldom of Acqui, Alba, Turin, Vercelli, Pombia (Novara), Bulgaria (in Vigevanese) and naturally Ivrea.
