THE HERALDS

The heralds were simply called the "buglers with large trumpets" and they were taken up by the town council.

Each year at Easter each of them was given a tunic worth 40 imperial coins on which the coats of the Arms of the Savoy Count and of the town council were embroidered; another tunic worth 60 imperial coins was given by the "Podestà" and on this tunic too the giver's Coats of Arms were represented.

The heralds had to deposit a bail for their trumpet promising not to spoil or change it and to give it back to the town council at the end of their commission.

The heralds had to ask permission to the town council to sleep outside Ivrea walls.
