The Acaias

In the partition of the Bizantine territories, after the IV Crusade (1204), the continental part of the Greek provinces was assigned to the Monferrato’s Marquis, Bonifacio. He granted the nobleman Franco Goffredo Villehardouin, the princedom of Acaia.after Goffredo had occupied it with his army.Different, tormented events brought Isabella, one of his direct descendants (Goffredo was his great-grandfather) to marry Philippe of Savoy in 1301.

This wedding joined the Acaia princedom to the Savoy one and gave origin to the princely branch of Savoy-Acaia.
