PICTURE GALLERY - PARMA

Parma is located in northern Italy. It is the homeland (and the only place of production) of Parmesan Cheese and Ham. The city has about 170,000 inhabitants. It has been for centuries an indipendent state. During the XVIII and XIX centuries it was under French influence. Even today the Parmesan dialect preserves many traces of this heritage (e.g. the word for "lira" is "franc", the same as in French !)
The famous Duchess of Parma, Maria Luisa, was Napoleon's wife.

Winter dawn at Torrechiara
Torrechiara Castle. It was built in the Renaissance as a... lover's residence for the Dukes!
Hills around Torrechiara. Look at the vineyards: here a good Lambrusco wine is produced.
