The Classification of Wushu

Wushu content is very rich, generally, we divide wushu in two parts:

1. Taolu movement

Taolu

Taolu is routine exercise what is arranged according to the changeable regular of movements of attack-defence and advance-retrent, and takes combat movement as its source material.

  • Single exercise: includes barehand practising and exerecise with weapon.

1). Barehand:

A. Chang-quan
B. Nan-quan
C. Tai-ji-quan
        a. Chen style    b. Yang style      c. Sun style    d. Wu style    e. Wu style
D. Xing-Yi-quan
E. Ba-Gua-zhang
F. Tong-Bei-quan
G. Pi-Gua-quan
H. Fan-Zi-quan
I. Di-Tang-quan
J. Imitative Style: Eagle, Snake, Drunken, Crane, Monkey, Tiger, Mantis, Dragon, etc.
K. Other local styles: Shaolin, Wudang, Emei, Hong-quan, Cai-Li-Fo, etc.

2). Weapons: There are 4 classifications of wushu weapons. Include Short weapon; Long weapon; Double weapon; Soft weapon.
a. Sword;    b. Boardsword;     c. Cudgel;      d. Spear;    e. Axe;     f. Shovel;    g. Crescent moon shovel;    i. Crutch;    j. Dagger;     k. Dart;    l. Double broadswords (swords, daggers, forks, halberds, hooks, long-eared swords, maces, two-headed spears, whips etc.);    m. Falchion;    n. Flying hook;     o. hatchet;    p. Iron ruler;     q. Long-hand broadsword (spear);    r. Meteor hammer;     s. Rake;    t. Rope-dart;     u. Shield;    v. Whip;     w. Three-section cudgel;    y. nine-section whip;    z. Whip-cudgel; etc....

  • Duilian (Set Sparring)

Duilian

Duilian means set sparring carried out among two or more people.

1). Bare-handed duel
2). Armed combat
3). Bare-handed and wapon duels

  • Group exercise

2. Combat movement

Chinese Combat

Chinese combat movement is the exercise between two people which get on battling of wits, courage, technique and force under the definite rule

  • Sanshou

Sanshou

Sanshou is a competitive combat event which the competitor utilizes the methods of kicking, punching and wrestling etc to subdue opponent.

  • Push-hand

Push-hand

Push-hand is a Taiji combat exercise, which the combatant ascertains opponent's force through the self-sense of muscle, then makes use of opponent's force, and utilize the techniques of warding off, deflecting, shoving, pressing, elbowing, dashing etc. to subdue opponent.
