Veliko Turnovo,
the medieval bulgarian capital

At 55 km from Koprivets is the town of Veliko Turnovo, the medieval capital of Bulgaria (1185- 1193).
This picturesque place is situated amphiteatrically on four hills- Tzarevetz, Trapezitza, Momina Krepost and Sveta Gora.



Veliko Turnovo is the town with the most glorious historical past in the country.

Each place in it is history.



Archaeological and other sources prove that its territory was populated as early as 2th millenium B.C.
In the 12th century as a capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom the town of Tsarevets was the true intellectual, political and military centre of Bulgaria.

During that period Bulgaria was the largest and the most powerful state in Southeastern Europe.

Nowadays it is a big economic, administrative, cultural and tourist centre wich offers an exquisite architecture, numerous churches and a biggest choice of accommodation in the surrounding area.
