Mauro Isola graduated (MSc) in Electronic Engineering in 2001 at the University of Cagliari, Italy, discussing a thesys on: Identificazione e rappresentazione del moto in tempo reale per applicazioni a basso frame rate. Since 2001, he contributes to the research and teaching activities of the Multimedia Communication Lab (MCLab) at the Department of Elecrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE) of the University of Cagliari where he is currently pursuing his PhD degree.

Research Activities
  • IP NETWORK PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Due to the continuous evolution of Internet applications (VoIP,Video-Conferencing) there is a great effort aimed at defining architecture able to provide guarantee QoS services mainly based on the concepts of DiffServ and IntServ. Furthermore the fast evolution of the IP world requires even more the deployment of appropriate methodologies for the evaluation of the network traffic and performance in a working network. In order to improve offered QoS simulation tools such as OPNET Modeler are extensively used.
  • NETWORK SIMULATION SPEED-UP STRATEGIES: Due to the increased complexity of networks today, it is difficult to conduct performance evaluations using purely analytical means. Simulation allows complex systems to be studied in detail but it often requires large amounts of computer time to obtain accurate results. New simulation speed-up strategies are then required in order to reduce the simulation run time.
  • ACCURACY IN SIMULATION: Stochastic nature of simulation enviroment involves an evaluation of transient and steady state simulation behaviours in order to collect accurate statistics results.
