Elephant bells , popular in the mid-to-late 1970s , were similar to bell-bottoms pants ,
but were typically made of denim . Thery were very tight on the hips and butt ,
and had a marked flare below the knee , often covering the wearer's shoes .
The preferred shoes were platform shoes with soles at least 2 inches ( 5.1 cm )
tick and heels 4 to 5 inches ( 10 to 13 cm ) to keep the pants' hems off the ground .

I pantaloni "a zampa d'elefante" , molto popopolari nella seconda meta' degli anni 70 ,
erano simili ai pantaloni a campana , o "scampanati" .
Erano tipicamente realizzati in tessuto jeans (denim) , molto aderenti
su fianchi e sedere . Avevano una marcata svasatura a partire
dal ginocchio , spesso coprendo totalmente le scarpe .
Le scarpe preferite erano "a piattaforma" o "zatteroni" , con suole di circa 5.1 cm
e tacchi di 10/13 cm , per non sfregare l'orlo a terra .
