MM - 'Morini Mezetti' company was started by Mario Mezetti (1895) and Alfonso Morini (1898) in
1924. This partnership built a range of highly regarded machines. They started with a 125cc two stroke racer, a horizontal single with hand change.
In 1927 Alfonso Morini won MM its first Grand Prix, again on the 125 single, covering the 200 kilometer (125 mile) race distance around the famous Monza
circuit at an average speed of 98.52 kph (61.6mph), shattering the class record for a single lap at 78.125mph in the process.

Despite all the successes, MM were only a specialist low volume producer of motorcycles. Morini
wanted to expand, whilst Mazzetti was too much of a perfectionist. In 1937 Alfonso Morini left MM to set up his own company ( Moto
Morini ). At the time MM employed just 85 people and built 500 machines per year. The factory was destroyed by allied bombs in WWII
and the company never regained its former glory, eventually closing in 1957.
