The Life Cycle Assessment of the integrated
municipal waste Management of "Monte di Procida (Naples - Italy)"
The purpose of this study is the environmental analysis of the municipal waste
management in the commune of Monte di Procida(Napoli,Italy).
This work has been done in collaboration with ENEA(National Research Institute
for Energy and Enviroment), Commune of Monte di Procida and some waste
management companies in Monte di Procida. To accomplish this study, the LCA(Life
Cycle Assessment) methodology was employed.
The LCA revealed to be very efficient ,because it allows considering all the
phases involved in the waste management, from the waste collecting to the final
treatment.
LCA enables a comparison between different scenarios of the integrated
management and an evaluation of the best strategy for the organisation of
collecting, recycling and landfilling of waste.
The goal is the analysis of the environmental profile of the waste management
done in the Commune of Monte di Procida.
The part of the life cycle of the product used by the citizenship of Monte di
Procida, Which has been analysed in the work, start from their collecting
and proceeds until the end of their life (recycling landfill).
On the basis of the analysis results, the main conclusion that can be put in
evedence are: the biggest impact is caused by the landfill's emission and the
differentiated collection is very useful and advantageous for the enviroment.
