version.
I
wanted to make a film or the immigration that’s occurring and will
occur in the future, on the difficulties it inevitably brings with it. I
believe this will he the most important revolution of the next few years.
Everybody’s afraid of difference; some people say so, some pretend,
others haven’t yet recognised their fear. My characters shout
difference and aren’t looking for reconciliation. Romea and Giulietto
in the year 2000
are a black woman and a white mal who fight for the right to love each
other and who want each other precisely because they are different,
Music brings them together, prejudice separates them.

SYNOPSIS The story is set in Palermo, where fate
arranges a meeting between Toni Giulietto, a down-at-heel street singer,
and Romea Wacoubo, a
stunning Nigerian girl working as a prostitute. It’s love at first
sight, but they meet opposition from Toni’s aunts, horrified at the
idea of leaving their nephew in the clutches of such a woman, and from
Romea girlfriends who can’t understand how their sister could fall for
a white good-for-nothing... This musical comedy uses the idea of
real-life incident that occurred in Palermo a couple of year ago to
present some of the difficulties and problems of integrating different
cultures. |
