Il gruppo dell'ex Minor Threat Ian MacKaye si forma nel 1987 mettendo subito in chiaro che il loro hardcore è molto particolare. Un incrocio da hardcore, noise e melodie oblique e "malate". Diventeranno il gruppo duro per intellettuali, proprio perché non immediati, ma intricati e difficili.
