IRON SHOE CLEANER

This object that seems to us a commonplace metal "little horse" of no value, was indeed almost a luxury object which not everyone had.

It was found only in some houses and it was placed on the side of the entrance door to allow the removal of mud from the soles of the shoes so that one could enter the house "without soiling" the inside. It is in fact the most "illustrious" ancestor of the modern doormat!

We confess that we don't remember the dialect term for this object (assuming there was ever one), but in Italian it is generally defined "cavaliere" (a term derived from "cavalierino": a sort of a metal saddle in the form of a metal sheet, forged in different dimensions and destined for a variety of uses).
