Christmas is a magical  and  special event, because in this period of the year all the families gather  together to celebrate this great festivity!!!

On the 24^th  December we have the typical “big Christmas dinner”, in which there’s always the most assorted choice of food. For example some families have lasagne, fish, turkey … or some prefer “sfincione”, which is a sort of pizza, but more elaborate and typically Sicilian.

Of course “panettone” and “pandoro” can’t be missed, although they are traditionally from northern italy. We in Sicily have “buccellato”, a sweet filled with dried fruits and nuts. All sweets are usually eaten while we play “tombola” (bingo!!!) with our relatives, waiting for the most beautiful moment of the evening :to open gifts!!!

At midnight we finally go together in church to celebrate the child jesus’  birth.
