BobTalk:

And Ray Benson is up here tonight with us. I must say, we've done a lot of shows. Asleep At The Wheel's been on a lot of shows with us and they're

the best group I've ever heard, probably. They're the most genuine group. (during band credits, after Love Sick).

Early Recordings Vol. IV

And They Took Him Down To The Folk City

So, after a break of nearly a half year here's the next one of my Early Recordings series:

The main topic this time are all the performances at Gerdes Folk City and as bonus on disc two is the Finjan Club performance, which fit well as also beeing a club performance. Of course again all recordings are remastered and not available elswhere in this quality.

disc one tracks 1-2: New York City, Gerdes Folk City, probably Sept. 26 1961 (second set). Part of a two weeks recidency at Gerdes Folk City (first day).

disc one track 3: New York City, probably Gerdes Folk City, Sept. 29 1961 (after a large research it's more probably that this track is from Gerdes Folk City and not from the Cynthia Gooding Appartement Tape).

disc one tracks 4-8: New York City, Gerdes Folk City, probably April 16 1962

disc one tracks 9-20: New York City, probably basement of Gerdes Folk City, Feb. 08 1963

disc two tracks 1-12: Montreal, Canada, Finjan Club, July 02 1962

The '61 tracks from Gerdes Folk City are from a mediocre soundboard source. I made them clearer and removed most of the hiss, they're not too bad anymore.

The '62 recording from Gerdes Folk City is from a good soundboard source, but it hat a lot of vinyl-crackles and some tapehiss on it. I removed most of the crackels. You might judge the hiss-filter as over-used but I had to find an acceptable compromiss between leaving a lot if hiss there and destroying too much from the sound. It's at least definitely an improvement to what it was before.

The Banjo Tape wasn't too bad though there was some tapehiss. I removed most of it and it's now pretty good.

The Finjan Club performance was already near perfection and I hadn't much to do. I still cleared up the sound a little bit and removed the last rest of tapehiss. I also re-ordered the tracks, because one of the best chronologys had this trackorder here and listening to the recording one can clearly hear the tape-cut after Stealin'.

My original artwork is of course included.

Vol. V will follow ...

DEEP: Alhough difficult to imagine, this release is a step up in sound from Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You, seemingly remastered to provide a bit more boost and fullness to the already remarkable sound. A devastating set, beautifully packaged with a 12 page cover/booklet, also boasting primo quality filler of the Hyde Park, London 1996 broadcast. An essential listening experience.
