This is the 8th Show of Bob Dylan's 1984 tour with
former Rolling Stones guitarist
Mick Taylor.
This is the first GREAT show of the tour, a must-have show. Every song
is perfect.
Dylan's singing and Taylor's playing meshes so well together and the
band is
so hot that they seem to be operating with one mind;
perfect! Each player seems
inspired
by the performance of the other members and each raise
their own game to meet the
challenge.
The result is a phenomenal show, what a treat. This is only the first great
show. There
are other magical nights but none surpass this night; equal, different
but not better.
Every note Taylor plays fits perfectly into the context of each
song.
Listen to him when he is NOT playing lead. A true master, he is always playing the
perfect part yet never over-playing. There is one problem with this offering
and it comes
on track # 6; "I and I." The song is cut and another show has
been dubbed in on the last 2
minutes to complete the song (I think it is from
Gothenburg as best I can tell, which is the
next show so there is continuity in the order). Other then that it is a fabulous soul-stirring
recording.
During "Ballad of a Thin Man" Dylan loses a
little bit of fire in his vocal but picks it up
again on "Every Grain of Sand" and doesn't
loose it again. Taylor is hot all
night.
"Simple Twist of Fate," (which now has become
a regular part of the setlist) "Every
Grain of Sand" and of course "Masters of
War" are becoming great show cases for his
style and technique. "Tangled up in Blue" has lost it's minor chord
that Dylan tried the
first two nights he played it and now it has taken on
the structure it will retain for the rest
of the tour.
As not to screw-up the evening even Santana plays decent on
"Tombstone
Blues" but Ian MacLagan is the star of it this
night with his fabulous boogie-woogie
piano playing.
The show ends with a stirring version of "Why Do I Have To Choose"
with a nice slide guitar solo by Taylor and Dylan's
singing after the solo is great.
Santana ends the song with a passable but weak solo
before it sputters to an end. It
must
have been tough to play after Taylor. Right now is the 20th Anniversary of
those shows
and I thought it would be cool to release each show to
STG on the date of the actual show
plus 20 years.
So, here is the eighth show; only 19 more!!! We'll see if I can keep up
with the rest of the tour.

This is the 15th Show of Bob Dylan's 1984 tour with
former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor.
This is a GREAT show and in great quality, just simply
stunning. At this point in the
tour every
single show is great and every one has moments that
transcend greatness to that next level.
This is
a pleasure to listen too. Dylan now is obviously having a great time. He seems to be loving
touring, he is connecting with the audience and
interacting with the band musically.
It's all quite
glorious.
Listen to Dylan's phrasing on "Tangled Up In Blue" at the line
"As she tied the laces of
my shoe." A line he's been singing at that point
for 10 years. Listen how he makes
it seem fresh,
how he emphasis the word "laces" and stretches
it out. The next time he'll
emphasis another part.
He is a master, giving something fresh to the audience
every single show. It's almost
beyond
comprehension.
The crowd here appreciates that.
Just listen to them after "Like A Rolling Stone."
A few interesting points of this show are that
"Simple Twist of Fate" has been moved were
typically "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" has
been (has replaced it). We also
get the second
performance of "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat"
(stop the presses, Santana is almost passable on this
version).
Another night without "Tombstone Blues" and mercifully we are
spared Santana's nightmare
on "Blowing in the Wind."
Dylan stays strong the entire evening. Listen to him sing his ass off on
"Simple Twist of Fate" and
even on the tired "Like A Rolling Stone" he is
singing fabulously. Wow, give
"Why Do I Have To Choose"
a listen! (and listen to Dylans guitar, it's great). Not
only is his singing great but also listen to the
harmonica solo on "Don't Think Twice." Do you think he was into it? It's great! His interaction between
guitar and harmonica here is impressive and moving. Taylor and the band are right with
Bob. Taylor's solo
on "Every Grain of Sand" is very different
from what he has been playing.
This song is very interesting to
listen to by itself from the beginning of the tour until
the end. If you want to hear a
master composer and
craftsman at work give it a listen. Taylor moves between simple solos,
complex solos, slide solos, it all
shows a glimpse of Taylor's mindset at that moment. This guy is a modern day Mozart, just
unbelievable! On
this night of course Santana botches the songs he plays
on, especially "The Times They Are A Changing."
Interesting enough on "Why Do I Have to
Choose" he seems to be
playing a solo that actually fits the song, however,
his tone is so incredibly bad that his solo is
disregarded as just another attempt by Santana to
"stand out" from the others. My God man! You are there with Dylan and Taylor!!! Shut the hell
up and strum the right chords if you can! We get a few bonus tracks at the end of
this courtesy of the
trader who I got these from. Feel free to delete these but there is the best "Man of
Peace" of the
entire tour here along with "Love Minus Zero No
Limit" and "All Along the Watchtower." All
are incredible.
Listen to Dylan sing, what a pleasure and the band does not disappoint
either. I
think each is from the Offenbach show but I have not
confirmed that.
Right now is the 20th Anniversary of those shows and I
thought it would be cool to
release each show to STG on the date of the actual show
plus 20 years. So, here is the
fifteenth show; only 12 more!!! We'll see if I can keep
up with the rest of the tour. So
far so good!
What are we going to do when the tour is over?

This is the 11th show with Bob Dylan and former Rolling
Stones guitarist Mick Taylor.
This is another very good bordering on great show and in
great quality. Parts of it are
fantastic.
The crowd is very vocal on this one yelling out for songs such as (this
one
amazes me since this song had just been written less
than a year before and was never
released until years later) "Blind Willie
McTell," "Solid Rock," and even the Rolling
Stones / Mick Taylor classic "Time Waits For No
One" (at the end of track 3, disc 2).
Also someone yells out at the end of the first acoustic
set "Where is the Band," which is
quite a tribute to them as Dylan was putting on a great
solo performance at the time.
Taylor plays a fantastic solo on Greg Suttons
"Imagination." The
setlist is fairly typical.
"Man of Peace" is included this night
(replaces "Simple Twist of Fate") and is really one
of the better versions of it. "Why Do I Have To Choose" is interesting because
Taylor
opts NOT to play slide on it (he plays the second solo
on it this night). Santana as
usual
ruins every song he plays on with his bad tone and solos
that do not fit in with the music.
One interesting thing that happened was that "All
Along the Watchtower" was played
twice this night.
Once in it's usual spot in the show and then as the last song. Also,
Santana's conga players are on the last couple of
songs. Right now is the 20th
nniversary
of those shows and I thought it would be cool to release
each show to STG on the date of
the actual show plus 20 years. So, here is the eleventh show; only 16 more!!! We'll see
if I can keep up with the rest of the tour. No artwork, enjoy
