This event was originaly scheduled for nearby Medlar Field, but was moved inside as the storms moved up the East Coast towards Pennsylvania. By show time, though, the rain had come and gone. After the rain, Dylan turned in one of the best shows I've attended in recent years. MODERN TIMES was now for sale in the merchandise area, but none of the new songs have been added to the setlist yet.
A Nello recording.

I got permission from John Doe the night before to tape this show. I wanted to tape that show too, but he felt that as it was the
first night of the tour, he didn't want it taped as they might be rusty. WRONG, Billy Zoom was fantastic, maybe the best I'd ever
seen, even though this "Ain't Love Grand" material wasn't my favorite X. That was at the Keystone Palo Alto, the Kabuki was
way bigger. I have never circulated this as it has issues that only could be reasonably addressed with computer editing. The
main problem was that a tiny screw holding the tape head assembly had loosened and the head slowly moved out of proper
position as the show went on. On some parts only one channel was useable, also the highs aren't as they should be. Besides
that, they had a new FOH sound guy who was from a studio background and used LOTS of processing so the mix is a little
strange. Still I think it's worth a listen. Needless to say that when I discovered the loose screw afterwards on the occasion of
my first permitted sdbd I was CRUSHED. Maybe you will it hear it differently than I do and enjoy it more than I can. I wondered
whether I should even put it up but I thought what the hell if somebody enjoys it then that will make it worth it.
All praise to Musigny23 for yet another gem from his collection
These files are ripped from the cd-r I made from the original files offered at EZT/DAD.
Please listen to the samples as this recording is FAR BETTER than what you'd think by musigny23's description.
It is true however that sound quality begins to suffer towards the end... especially in the quitar mix. You can hear
the difference in the "What's Wrong With Me" sample
I figure I'll go through and re-up whatever of the roughly 70 X shows that've been offered here I can....
although it won't be at the 2-a-day pace at which I've been going. It's only fair for the newer members
to have access to these moments in history.
If you happen to have any X/Knitters/Doe/Cervenka in your collections please share with us.... regardless
of quality. You'll make quite a few of us quite happy.

John Doe - Bass/Vocals
Exene Cervenka - Vocals
Dave Alvin - Guitar
DJ Bonebrake - Drums
Audience Recording - Unknown equipment & generation(but I've got a pretty good idea that this, if not from master, is pretty damned close)
From my end we've got:
CD-r > EAC > FlacFrontend[level 8/sba]
I give this one a solid B for overall sound.... for being an aud recording in a New Years Eve crowd.
Also, I gotta think that the fact that this is Dave Alvin's first gig w/ X makes it worthy of any collection.
Nevermind that they did "I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts". To this day, in the nearly 200 times I've seen them, they've
not done this as X... as The Knitters? sure.. but not as X... and I've even seen them do "4th Of July" w/ Billy on guitar
