E' un piccolo borgo non molto lontano dalla città di Viterbo. In realtà è considerato una frazione del capoluogo laziale, infatti dista soli 5km da questa città.

La sua attrattiva sta nella splendida Villa Lante ideata dal famoso Vignola nel sedicesimo secolo, e soprattutto nel magnifico giardino all'italiana, e nelle fontane, disposti su 3 terrazze.

La villa è visitabile, dietro pagamento di un biglietto, dalle 9 del mattino fino alle 4 del pomeriggio.

Raggiungere Bagnaia può risultare complicato, ma vi assicuro che ne vale la pena.

Ci sono due modi per arrivare a Bagnaia...

- il primo sistema, che consiglio caldamente, è quello di recarsi presso Saxa Rubra dalla quale partono ogni 30 minuti gli autobus del CoTral per Viterbo. Saxa Rubra è una località sita alla periferia nord di Roma raggiungibile con un trenino locale della linea Roma-Civita Castellana-Viterbo, o con gli autobus urbani (linea 232).

Giunti a Viterbo, bisogna scendere a Porta Fiorentina, e di li recarsi all'inizio di Viale Trieste (sono solo 50 metri) dove si può prendere un altro bus CoTral che vi porterà a Bagnaia (dovete scendere sul ponte di Viale Fiume, sopra la ferrovia).

Di li la villa dista solo poche centinaia di metri, ed è già ben visibile (vedete le foto alla vostra sinistra).

- il secondo sistema consiste nel prendere il trenino extraurbano, sulla stessa linea che va a Saxa Rubra. Questo trenino, che parte da Piazzale Flaminio, e fa scalo anche a Piazza Euclide, Acqua Acetosa e il cui percorso fiancheggia tutta la via flaminia, ha una serie di corse dirette a Viterbo, i cui orari sono differenti (a seconda dei giorni e dei periodi dell'anno) per cui conviene informarsi presso le stazioni.

Sconsiglio l'uso di questo mezzo perchè impiega circa 2 ore e 45 minuti per raggiungere Bagnaia, mentre con gli autobus impiegate solo 1 ora e mezzo. Sicuramente comunque, il viaggio su questo trenino è davvero spettacolare e panoramico, magari fateci un pensierino per il viaggio di ritorno a casa.

This is a beautiful village situated near the city of Viterbo.

It is considerated an hamlet of Viterbo, because it only at 5 kilometres far from this city.

Its most beautiful attraction is the well known "Villa Lante", builded in the 16th Century by the famous Vignola.

It has a wonderful Italian garden rich of fountains, that is 3 terraced.

The villa is visitable paying a ticket, everyday between 9am up to 4pm.

The journey could be difficult, but I council to visit this wonderful place.

There are two ways to reach Bagnaia:

- The First one is the shorter one.

I council this one because you can arrive in Bagnaia, leaving from Rome, in about 1 hour and a half.

The journey can be subdivided in 3 steps...

(1st step)

you have to reach the station of Saxa Rubra, on the urban railway Roma-Civita castellana-Viterbo.

There is a train each 5 minutes, leaving from Piazzale Flaminio (near Piazza del Popolo). It takes about 15 minutes.

(2nd step)

you have to take a CoTral bus for Viterbo (see the links section of my website to find the address of the CoTral's official website), there is one about each 30 minutes.

When you arrive in Viterbo, you must get down at "Porta Fiorentina" (ask to the driver). It takes about 1 hour.

(3rd step)

go to Viale Trieste (about 50 meters far from Porta Fiorentina) and get another CoTral bus, for Bagnaia.

Ask to the driver for the right stop where you can get down to go to Villa Lante.

This last step takes no more than 8 minutes.

It could seem complicated, but it is easy to do.

Now you are in Bagnaia, and you can use my map or simply look around for the Villa, you can have an idea to what you have to look for simply referring to the first photo I published.

- the Second way you can use to reach Bagnaia, is the simplest one but also the slowest one.

You can use an extra-urban train of the railway Roma-Civita Castellana-Viterbo (yes the same railway you have to use if you wanna reach Saxa Rubra and take the Bus).

There are few trains of this kind, so you have to search for the timetable on the official website:

This train takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes to reach the station of Bagnaia. It is a long journey, during which you can have a delightful view of the Tuscia's campaign.

I usually council this journey as a possible return one.
