A FIREPLACE at POSADA
In 2002 I built a fireplace in the
frontyard of my parents’ house in
constructed it, with my father’s help. It was a
great experience, even though there were misadventures. A neighbor
complained that it was too close to the dividing
wall of her backyard, so the fireplace has practically never been used,
except for few days right after it was built.
The fireplace consists of a lower part, which
is to contain wood and accessories, and an upper part, where the fire
chamber is. The whole thing stands on an
embankment, held together by a little wall of stones. The glass or plastic pa-
rapet, with the wooden handrail, which one can
see in the drawings, was never actually put in place, and I don’t think
it is
necessary. The construction is based on the measures of Le Corbusier’s Modulor.
In several parts, in fact, there
are
dimensional relations based on the golden ratio.
UPDATE: in the summer of 2005 we had the
opportunity to use the fireplace. It seems that things have been straight-
ened out so
that now we can use it, thanks to my sister.
