Hasselhoff's Show a No-Go

By Melissa Grego

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Former ``Baywatch'' star David Hasselhoff's new TV show has been beached.

``Doublecross,'' the syndicated action hour set to launch this fall, apparently fell victim to money problems.

Hasselhoff was set to play a convicted art forger forced to join a clandestine governmental organization. The show, initially called ``A.K.A. Picasso,'' was cleared on stations representing more than 80% of the country.

Some stations who had signed on for the launch were notified Monday that the series is being pulled by its distributor, New York-based BKS. Much of the international financing for the show has apparently fallen through.

Representatives for BKS and the show's producer, Kaleidoscope Media Group, could not be reached for comment.

``It's nearly impossible to launch a show if it doesn't have some international backing behind it,'' said TV consultant Bill Carroll, VP and director of programming for Katz Media.

The show was set to be shot in Montreal. Hasselhoff was also to serve as one of the executive producers.
