Sembra che a Hollywood sia scoppiata una nuova "moda". Mettere nel cast due grandi dive per farle recitare sullo stesso set. Dopo Julia Roberts e Nicole Kidman che gireranno presto "Monte Carlo", ecco che anche Kim Basinger e Charlize Theron hanno deciso di far parte al progetto "Burning Plain". La Basinger sarà la madre di Charlize, che interpreta Sylvia una ragazza con molti problemi...
La pellicola, come riporta la "Bibbia" del cinema americano Variety, segna il debutto di uno degli sceneggiatori più famosi nella Mecca del cinema: Guillermo Arriaga, che ha lavorato per pellicole cult come "21 grammi" e "Babel" di Alejandro González Iñárritu. Dunque l'affascinante Kim Basinger interpreterà la madre di Sylvia (Theron) che narra in prima persona la sua infanzia e l'origine di tutte le sue problematiche del presente.
Le riprese si svolgeranno a novembre nel New Mexico. I produttori sono Walter Parkes e Laurie MacDonald. Nel cast anche i giovanissimi J.D. Pardo (nel telefilm "The O.C." e il film "Havoc") e la "quasi" esordiente Jennifer Lawrence. Kim Basinger ha appena terminato lo scorso mese di girare “The Informers” con Billy Bob Thornton, mentre è già sul set del thriller “While She Was Out” di Susan Montford.
La Theron, invece, è reduce dalla promozione del film "Battle in Seattle" diretto dal compagno Stuart Townsend. Attualmente è sul set con Will Smith in "Hancock" di Peter Berg.

Basinger heads to 'The Burning Plain'
Print story Email to a friend Font size:LOS ANGELES, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Hollywood actress Kim Basinger is set to star alongside fellow Oscar-winner Charlize Theron in the big-screen drama "The Burning Plain."
The film marks Guillermo Arriaga's directorial debut, Variety.com reported Thursday.
Arriaga previously wrote the acclaimed, multi-narrative drama, "Babel." He also wrote the script for "The Burning Plain," a film that weaves together two story lines taking place in the past and present.
In the new film, Basinger will play the mother of Charlize Theron's character as seen in childhood.
Theron will play a woman who attempts to find common ground with her parents after a stormy childhood. The two narratives eventually converge, the trade paper said.
The movie is to begin shooting next month in New Mexico.
Basinger was last seen in the 2006 film "The Sentinel." She will shoot "The Informers" opposite Billy Bob Thornton later this month and will next be seen in the independent thriller, "While She Was Out."

Bollywood remakes Hollywood movie "Cellular"
An Indian producer is remaking "Cellular", the 2004 Hollywood movie about a kidnapped woman who calls a stranger off her mobile phone and begs him to save her life.
"Speed", which is being directed by Vikram Bhatt, is the latest Indian movie to borrow from the West.
"It is a very unpredictable film with a lot of twists," said actor Sanjay Suri, although many of those twists will be familiar to fans of the original, which starred Kim Basinger.
Other Hollywood homages include "Partner", a recent box office hit, which was modelled closely on the Hollywood movie "Hitch", starring Will Smith.
"Akele Hum Akele Tum", "Kaante" and "The Killer" are adaptations of "Kramer vs. Kramer", "Reservoir Dogs" and "Collateral" respectively.
Hollywood in turn has recently been looking to thrillers and horror movies from eastern Asia for inspiration.

Charlize Theron Will Star In 'The Burning Plain'
After penning Alejandro González Iñárritu's three most popular films (Amores perros, 21 Grams, Babel), screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga has decided to go at it alone. Variety reports Arriaga will make his feature directorial debut on The Burning Plain, with Charlize Theron coming onboard to star and exec produce. Mark Cuban's 2929 Productions will finance the film, while Cuban, Marc Butan, Todd Wagner and Beth Kono will also produce. Known for his complex, intertwining stories, Arriaga will once again return to that format for this film -- focusing mainly on "very intense love stories that take place in different places and times, with characters trying to find the healing powers of love, forgiveness and redemption." Isn't that what all his films are about? Theron will play a woman named Sylvia who attempts to reconcile with her parents after a turbulent childhood.
The film, which will cost under $20 million, currently has no distribution plan in place. Although 2929 Productions has gone day-and-date before, I can't seem them going that route here. Then again, I could be wrong. It was fairly obvious that Arriaga would go solo following the war of words he and Iñárritu found themselves in last year. At one point things became so bitter that Iñárritu banned Arriaga from attending the Babel premiere at Cannes. Since that whole snafu pretty much solidified the fact that their relationship was all but over, it was only a matter of time before Arriaga did his own thing. I guess it will be interesting to see how one does without the other; Arriaga's script for The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (directed by Tommy Lee Jones) was good, but I thought the film was just too damn slow ... and long. Is Iñárritu overrated? Is Arriaga really the mastermind behind all that great work? I guess we'll see ...

"Burning Plain' nears end of local shooting

LAS CRUCES -ÊSeveral Las Crucens savored their chance to be in the movies as about 150 extras gathered Monday on the Downtown Mall to film scenes for the "The Burning Plain."
The film's director, Guillermo Arriaga, and star Charlize Theron are both here this week to film final Las Cruces scenes at locations ranging from Tornillo Street to remote desert areas.
"I like Las Cruces so much I'm going to buy a house here," Arriaga said Monday, as production crew members readied a set with carts of fresh fruits and vegetables for a market scene on the Downtown Mall.
He's a fan of the Organ Mountains.
"They're beautiful," said Arriaga, who wrote the Golden Globe-winning, Academy Award-nominated 2006 film "Babel."
"The Burning Plain" marks his debut as director of a major film. He also is credited as screenwriter on the film.
Original estimates that producers would spend about $7 million in Las Cruces, the primary location for the film, are on target, Ray Angelic, the film's line producer, said Monday.
"This is our biggest day of shooting here. We have about 150 extras today and I'd say we've hired about 400 Las Cruces extras so far, plus daily crews, including security, of about 40 to 115 people," Angelic said.
Both
Arriaga and Angelic praised Las Cruces as a location.
"It's been a great experience, working here. Everyone has been very helpful, from the police to CMI (Creative Media Institute, New Mexico State University's film school). People have been very helpful and we seem to be generating a certain amount of excitement," Angelic said.
At Tornillo Street locations on Friday and Saturday, crew members removed leaves that fell during last week's high winds to make sure exterior shots matched earlier scenes.
"I've been working security for about three weeks. I was raised right here, on this corner, so it's fun to see it be in a movie," said Many Rodriguez of Las Cruces.
Santino Jimenez, 27, of Las Cruces, is a 2002 NMSU graduate who said he has worked on several recent movie productions in New Mexico.
"I've been everything from an actor to production crew, and I'm working locations now. We've been working locations at Tortugas, Chaparral, El Paso, Organ and out in the desert near Highway 70. My job is to find locations, provide maps and parking, talk to neighbors and hand out fliers to let people know we're going to be here," said Jimenez, whose credits include "Transformers," and upcoming 2008 releases "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull" and "Five Dollars A Day."
Angelic said the production company appreciates the cooperation of residents.
"We've been in some neighborhoods for about five days and sometimes we've set up taco trucks or ice cream trucks to give something back. People have been great here," Angelic said.
Esteban Reyes, 13, of Las Cruces, has his own star discovery story to share.
"I sold someone a necklace and he asked me if I wanted to be in the movie," said Reyes, on location Monday with his sister and fellow Vista Middle School student Mayra, 11, and their brother, Oñate High School student Abraham, 16, who will also be extras in the film.
"This is a kind of a fun thing to do. I can't wait until the movie comes out and we can say, "Oh, look. Here we are,'" Mayra Reyes said.
Angelic said that Tuesday "will be the last day of principal filming here. People will be here winding things up through the end of the week."
Next the production will move to Portland, Ore., the other major location for "The Burning Plain," currently scheduled for release in 2009, according to the production's Web site. The writers' strike has not affected the film because the script was finalized before the strike began, producer said.
The plot focuses on a mother, Gina, portrayed by Kim Basinger, who has already completed her scenes here, and her daughter Sylvia, (Theron) who try to form a bond after the young woman's difficult childhood.

Ha saputo non rimanere incastrata nel ruolo di sex symbol anni Ottanta (davanti al celebre balletto del frigorifero in "Nove Settimane E Mezzo" l'avevamo pensato un po' tutti, lo confessiamo) e trovare ruoli adatti a lei anche ora che è una splendida cinquantenne.
Il suo ultimo progetto si chiama "The Informers", un film drammatico ispirato a una serie di racconti dello scrittore americano Bret Easton Ellis, che ha anche partecipato alla sceneggiatura insieme a Nicholas Jarecki.
La vicenda è ambientata nella Los Angeles del 1983 e rispecchia una settimana di vita di sette personaggi, tra cui non mancano rock star, divi del cineme e - attenzione - un vampiro.
Trattandosi di uno script di Bret Easton Ellis non aspettatevi la classica LA inondata di sole, ma piuttosto una metropoli dove nichilismo, rassegnazione e droga la fanno da padroni. Ma a tirarci su di morale ci sarà il fascino 'bruto' di Billy Bob Thornton, anche lui scritturato per il film. Sarà che ce lo ricordiamo ancora quando era marito di una Angelina Jolie tutta dark e sguardi torbidi, ma ci è sempre simpatico.

Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke sign up for 'The Informers'
Melbourne, Sept 22 (ANI): Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke have signed up to star in 'The Informers'.
The Gregor Jordan directed pic is based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel of the same name.
Ryder and Rourke will now be joining an already confirmed cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Brandon Routh, Ashley Olsen, Jon Foster, Lou Taylor Pucci and Austin Nichols, reports Moviehole.net.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, which tells seven separate stories, follows a week in the lives of a group of morally challenged characters -- a movie executive, his wife, his mistress, a rock star, a vampire and a kidnapper.
Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the movie is being financed by Senator Entertainment.
Ryder is to play a newscaster who has just been dumped after a longtime affair with a married producer William Sloan.
Rourke will play Peter, an amoral former studio security guard who plots to kidnap a small child to sell to the leader of a Los Angeles cult. (ANI)

Della fugge via in macchina, dirigendosi verso il bosco, mentre i quattro le sono alle calcagna. Il lungo e pericoloso inseguimento ha termine quando Della va a sbattere contro un albero. Nell’auto Della trova una vecchia cassetta per gli attrezzi e inizia a fuggire, a piedi, nella foresta. Armata soltanto della cassetta per gli attrezzi, Della é decisa a difendere ad ogni costo la propria vita e ben presto da preda si trasformerà in predatore.

Kim Basinger: Ich glaube, dass Wasser irre wichtig ist. Wenn man morgens aufwacht, dann braucht der Körper Wasser. Denn der Körper besteht nun einmal auch aus Wasser, und man hat die ganze Nacht geschlafen. Es ist reine Mathematik. Man bringt einfach Wasser zurück in den Körperhaushalt. Und dann habe ich noch ein ganz persönliches Ritual: Ich gehe jeden Tag in die Sauna. Ich liebe meine skandinavische Sauna, aber ich habe mir gerade eine Infrarot-Sauna gekauft, weil ich darin statt 30 nur 10 Minuten sitze. Es ist zwar nicht unbedingt so, dass ich diese 20 Minuten gewonnene Zeit brauche, aber es hilft einem morgens schon, wenn man Frühstück machen muss und das Kind zur Schule bringt. WELT ONLINE: Finden Sie sich eigentlich selbst schön? Kim Basinger: Oh, das ist eine unheimliche Frage. Ich hoffe, dass da niemand mit einem uneingeschränkten Ja antworten würde. Aber es geht doch jeder Frau so, dass Sie sich manchmal dabei erwischt, wie sie in den Spiegel guckt und sich sagt "Hey! Heute siehst du aber ganz schön scharf aus, dein Haar sitzt perfekt, wow." Solche Ausraster hat jede Frau, ganz sicher. Aber man setzt dann halt auch die Sonnenbrille auf, geht aus dem Badezimmer und bringt sein Kind in die Schule – und schon ist man ganz normal. Ich meine, es gibt viele Frauen, die schon vor Ewigkeiten dieses Alter genossen haben. Ich glaube einfach: Je älter man wird, desto weiser wird man hoffentlich. Man ist nicht mehr jung und dumm. Man hört auf, immer wieder dieselben Fehler zu machen, man wird selbstbewusster und dadurch attraktiver. Und diese Weisheit muss man unbedingt nutzen. Man kann nicht mehr die kleines-sexy-Mädchen-Karte spielen, also sollte man wenigstens die Weisheits-und-Erfahrungs-Karten nutzen. WELT ONLINE: Wie alt fühlen Sie sich heute? Kim Basinger: Ich fühle kein Alter, keine Zahl. An manchen Tagen fühle ich mich wie ein Kind, an manchen Tagen wie ein Teenager, und manchmal fühle ich mich voller Weisheit und immenser Weitsicht (fängt sehr laut an zu lachen), wo ich mich dann weniger für ein kleines Mädchen und mehr für eine griechische Göttin halte. WELT ONLINE: Wann ist das? Kim Basinger: Immer dann, wenn ich mich stark mache für mich selbst oder für jemanden. Dabei will man doch in der Gegenwart sein – und bleiben. Da darf man sich nicht permanent Gedanken über das Älterwerden machen. WELT ONLINE: Wie wichtig sind Cremes und Make-up für Sie? Sie sind in den Südstaaten aufgewachsen, leben jetzt im sonnigen Kalifornien - und haben trotzdem einen eher blassen Teint. Kim Basinger: Oh ja, Sonnenschutz ist bei mir sehr wichtig. Ich habe eine sehr empfindliche Haut und eine Sonnenallergie, darum muss ich sehr, sehr vorsichtig sein. Ich lege immer Sonnenschutz auf. Auch bei Außenaufnahmen für Filme, da kriegen die Regisseure oder Fotografen regelmäßig einen großen Schrecken, wenn ich mit einem dicken Sonnenschutzfilm im Gesicht vor der Kamera auftauche. WELT ONLINE: Sind Sie eher mit Männern oder mit Frauen befreundet? Kim Basinger: Ich liebe Frauen, ich habe viele Frauen um mich herum, aber ich liebe auch Männer. Es ist allerdings so, dass ich unheimlich viel von Frauen gelernt habe. Früher, da hatte ich fast ausschließlich Männer um mich rum. In der Schule, als Model in New York, immer nur Männer, Männer, Männer. Und dann habe ich Frauen für mich entdeckt. Meine Mom war meine erste richtig gute Freundin, dann meine Schwester, aber viel später habe ich erst gelernt, wie toll Frauen als Freundinnen sind. Wie sie reden, wie sie denken. Sie sind lustig, es gibt so viel zu entdecken. Ich meine: Ich kenne Männer. Und ich habe viele männliche Freunde, aber im Moment habe ich mehr enge Freundinnen als Freunde. WELT ONLINE: Es gibt inzwischen einige mächtige Frauen in der Politik. Was halten Sie von deren modischem Auftritt? Kim Basinger: Ich habe immer den Eindruck, dass Politikerinnen den Leuten einfach nur gefallen wollen. Weil sie aber nicht allen gefallen können, versuchen sie zumindest der Mehrheit zu gefallen. Da geht es dann nicht mehr um persönlichen Stil, und ich glaube, das sieht man einfach. Tra le più amate: in Germania l'attrice Iris Berben (57 anni), in Francia Ségolène Royal (52); Sharon Stone (50) è la preferita in Spagna e Italia. Ma se i tedeschi guardano prima sorriso (69%), poi intelligenza (65%) e personalità (64%), gli italiani privilegiano l'aspetto fisico (56%), l'eleganza (55%), infine l'intelligenza (53%).

Kim Basinger se unirá a película de Arriaga
MEXICO—Guillermo Arriaga sigue rodeándose de ganadoras del Oscar.
Para su nueva película "The Burning Plain", ha sumado a su elenco a la actriz estadounidense Kim Basinger, ganadora del premio de la Academia a la mejor actriz por su trabajo en "L.A. Confidential".
Basinger interpretará a la madre de Charlize Theron, protagonista del filme, también ganadora de un Oscar por "Monster".
"The Burning Plan", que se desarrolla en la frontera desértica de Estados Unidos y México, trata sobre una mujer que decide reconciliarse con sus padres luego que la hicieran vivir una niñez tormentosa.
"Pensé en Kim porque es una actriz que le da una cualidad de pertenencia al desierto. Encaja perfecto con este mundo de la película que mezcla tristeza, sensualidad y fragilidad al mismo tiempo con la posibilidad de la reconstrucción", dijo Arriaga al diario Excélsior.
"Ya hablé con Kim y le gustó mucho la historia y a mí me gusta mucho ella como actriz. Estoy muy contento de contar con ella y sólo falta firmarla para cerrar todo", agregó.
Para Arriaga, nominado al Oscar por el guión de "Babel", el desierto es "como mi hábitat y esta será la segunda parte de las películas que hablan de la frontera y que empezó con 'Los tres entierros de Melquíades'".
La cinta comenzará a filmarse el 6 de noviembre en Estados Unidos.
Arriaga, que debuta como director tras disolverse su exitosa relación de trabajo con Alejandro González Iñárritu, quien dirigió sus guiones de "Babel", "Amores perros" y "21 gramos", actualmente se encuentra en la etapa de preproducción y selección de actores.
"Realmente no sé si ya estoy listo o no (para dirigir), me da mucho nervio pero me estoy preparando lo mejor posible y lo que sí puedo decir es que me estoy divirtiendo muchísimo", aseguró.
El actor Eduardo Yáñez hizo algunas pruebas para la película, pero el cineasta aún no ha tomado una determinación sobre su participación.
Indicó que su selección de actores se basará en que "coincidan con el personaje, con los demás actores y que tengan cierta pertenencia al desierto, para mí eso es bien importante".
Además de ser la estrella del filme, Theron funge como productora ejecutiva.
Recientemente la actriz dijo que tras leer el guión que le hizo llegar el escritor mexicano, no dudó ni un segundo en unirse a su nueva película.
"Quedé fascinada con lo natural que es. No parece forzado y es de esas ocasiones en las que no intentas persuadir a nadie para que cambie algo", dijo la actriz sudafricana en una rueda de prensa reseñada por el diario Reforma.
