While Ellis novels "American Psycho," "Less than Zero" and "The Rules of Attraction" have been turned into films, "The Informers" is the first one he had a hand in adapting. Jarecki just directed "The Outsider," a Showtime docu about indie director James Toback.

Vicki Vale and Superman together?
I really thought we’d have seen more of Kim Basinger since her Oscar Win with “L.A Confidential” but seems she’s still busy jelly wrestling with Jennifer Lynch and filling out forms for Alec Baldwin to be bothered getting in front of the camera again (though she did do a couple of underwhelming flicks like “I Dream of Africa” and “Bless this Child”).
Anyway, the “Nine and a Half Weeks” (man, wasn’t she smokin’ in that - - - revisit that staircase scene, you don’t even need to have a collar on your shirt to get hot under it) star has signed to co-star with Billy Bob Thornton in “The Informers” (insert ‘More than Meets the Eye’ joke here), a drama based on a bunch of short stories that Bret Easton Ellis (“American Psycho”) scrawled.
Basinger isn’t the most interesting addition to the film though – though no doubt it is a good gig for her – that honour lies with Superman, Brandon Routh. Yep, the seemingly unemployable – I am surprised nobody has hired Routh since “Superman Returns”, if only because he’s headlined a multi-million dollar movie – Man of Steel has also jettisoned in for a role in the movie.

This one’s really going to prove Ellis’ worth in film, too. He helped out on the adaptation of this – unlike “Rules of Attraction”, “Less than Zero” and “Psycho” – so if it don’t work, he’s going to share in the yoke. Sounds intriguing to me though.

Billy Bob Thornton and Kim Basinger have signed up for a movie adaptation of a set of short stories written by Bret Easton Ellis.
Ellis' novels American Pscho, Less than Zero and The Rules of Attraction have all been turned into movies previously, but The Informers will be his first work that he has personally been involved in adapting, as he has produced the script for the film.
According to Variety the movie will present a "chillingly nihilistic world of Ellis' youth", chronicling seven interlinking stories, which will feature musicians, a vampire and movie executives.
Thornton and Basinger will star alongside Brandon Routh, Austin Nichols, Ashley Olsen, Jon Foster and Lou Picci in the film. Shooting for the movie begins in October in LA, Uruguay and Argentina.

The Hollywood Reporter has at least a smidge of specific casting info, noting that Thornton will play a movie exec with Basinger as his wife, Routh will play a vampire and Olsen will play a sexually promiscuous girl.
Gregor Jordan ("Buffalo Soldiers") is directing the film, which features seven intersecting storylines taking place over one week in Los Angeles, circa 1983.
Ellis and Nicholas Jarecki adapted the "American Psycho" author's collection of stories and production will begin in October in Los Angeles, Uruguay and Buenos Aires.
Last seen in "The Astronaut Farmer" and "School for Scoundrels," Thornton has "Mr. Woodcock" and "Tulia" on tap.
Basinger's recent credits include "The Sentinel," "Cellular" and the telefilm "The Mermaid Chair."

Pas étonnant donc que la firme de cosmétiques Lancaster l’ait choisie, c’est une première, pour être l’égérie de sa campagne Differently. Une ligne de crèmes anti-âge avec une approche différente de la beauté destiné aux femmes ayant franchi le cap de la cinquantaine.
Multidimensionnelle et holiste sont les maîtres mots de cette nouvelle ligne. « Cela fait longtemps qu’on me propose d’associer mon nom et mon image à toutes sortes de produits, mais rien qui sonne juste ou qui me corresponde vraiment », explique l’actrice, assise au bord du canapé de la suite d’un hôtel tout aux tons beiges qui font ressortir ses yeux bleus et la blondeur cendrée de sa chevelure. Elle a accepté ce nouveau rôle parce qu’elle s’est sentie en confiance et en parfait accord avec le passé et les responsables de Lancaster.
« Je fonctionne avant tout par affinité, intuition et instinct. La connexion a été instantanée. Lancaster existe depuis soixante-cinq ans. C’est donc une référence de qualité et de sérieux imparable. Et puis j’ai pu m’impliquer d’une manière créative dans le processus depuis le début. Je ne tenais pas à me contenter de prêter mon nom. Suivre l’évolution du concept de bout en bout m’a passionnée, qu’il s’agisse de sentir et tester les produits ou de juger leur présentation ! Le résultat m’a emballée. J’aime cette ligne et j’admire aussi le fait qu’aucun test n’ait été effectué sur des animaux comme c’est encore le cas chez nombre de grandes marques. »
Les animaux et leur protection justement, une préoccupation de longue date pour Kim Basinger. Comme la sauvegarde de l’environnement ou le droit des seniors… L’actrice s’anime en discutant de ces activités extra-cinématographiques qui lui tiennent à coeur. Ses mains aux ongles courts recouverts d’un vernis transparent virevoltent. « Enfant déjà, j’avais envie de venir en aide aux autres. J’ai grandi dans le Sud profond, consciente très tôt de la pauvreté. J’étais trop timide pour être avocate. Étrangement, devenir actrice a été la solution. Ma célébrité m’a déjà énormément servi, mais j’aimerais tant être en mesure de faire plus. Aider davantage les orphelinats dont je m’occupe au Guatemala et en Russie, me battre pour d’autres causes, comme l’enfance malheureuse, une meilleure organisation du placement en familles d’accueil… »
Ses conseils de beauté ? « Je ne sors jamais sans un immense chapeau de paille pour me protéger du soleil et je me tartine d’écran total indice maximal. » Une pause, puis elle reprend avec une sorte de véhémence tranquille. « Je pourrais vous parler de régimes, mais je peux vous certifie qu’aucune de ces recettes ne fonctionne tant qu’on ne se libère pas de toute rancoeur envers ceux qui vous ont fait souffrir. Pour le reste, je m’en remets à Dieu, à ma foi et à mon sens de l’humour. Piliers qui m’ont aidée constamment lors des moments difficiles… »
On suppose qu’elle fait allusion aux démêlés qui l’opposent à son ex-mari Alec Baldwin depuis leur divorce en 2001. L’actrice, spontanément, parle d’Ireland, leur fille âgée de douze ans dont elle a la garde. « Elle reste ma priorité. Elle est très intelligente et a un caractère indépendant. Je lui impose certaines règles et elle connaît ses limites avec moi. Elle sait que ses actes auront des conséquences qu’elle devra assumer. J’ai toujours été très ouverte et honnête avec elle. Ainsi, je lui ai expliqué pourquoi j’avais posé nue dans Playboy. J’espère de tout mon coeur que plus tard, elle pourra transmettre une partie de ce que je lui ai enseigné et qu’elle se souviendra avec bienveillance de son enfance… »
Un parcours flamboyant
Kim Basinger aime écrire, d’aussi loin qu’elle se souvienne. Avec stylo et bloc-notes de préférence plutôt qu’un ordinateur. « Jamais je n’ai envisagé de publier quoi que ce soit, jugeant mes écrits trop personnels. Mais aujourd’hui je me dis que si certaines bribes de mes élucubrations et réflexions peuvent aider, apporter un quelconque bienfait, ne serait-ce qu’à quelques lecteurs, alors cela en vaudra la peine… » Elle se dit en harmonie avec son parcours. Ne regrette rien de ses trente ans de carrière. « J’éprouve de plus en plus de plaisir entre “moteur!” et “coupez!”. Je m’amuse aussi beaucoup plus. Mes expériences passées m’ont enrichie. Je n’ai qu’à puiser dans mon vaste placard aux émotions et emprunter ce dont j’aurai besoin pour un rôle. » Elle éclate d’un rire sonore qui résonne longtemps. « Je continue d’apprendre et, plus important, j’ai accepté le fait que plus on apprend, moins on en sait. » Au passage, elle indique, assez fière, s’être mise à piloter. « J’ai déjà pas mal d’heures de vol à mon actif et j’adore ça. Je suis devenue dingue d’aviation. »
On mentionne quelques-uns de ses films, comme ce remake de Tant qu’il y aura des hommes, tourné avec Natalie Wood en 1979. « Je me souviens de sa peur panique de l’eau. Je regrette encore de ne pas avoir osé lui proposer de lui apprendre à nager. Comme on sait, elle est morte noyée peu de temps après… » Neuf Semaines et demie, film culte. « Celui qui est sorti en salle n’a rien à voir avec ce que le réalisateur Adrian Lyne, Mickey Rourke et moi avons fait. La version de quatre heures que j’ai à la maison, voilà qui vaudrait la peine d’être montré au public. Prêt-à-porter : cauchemardesque. « Altman, que j’adorais, était fou. Il n’y avait pas de scénario. En plus, j’incarnais une journaliste de mode devant assurer de vraies interviews, moi qui n’y connais rien ! » L.A. Confidential, pour lequel elle a remporté un oscar il y a dix ans : « Je me suis complètement identifiée à cette vamp aux abois. »
Quelles sont les stars qu’elle admire? « Rita Hayworth, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly. Elles possédaient quelque chose d’unique qu’on ne voit plus à notre époque. Comme Brigitte Bardot, que je rêverais de rencontrer, dont j’admire l’activisme inlassable, et qui reste une inspiration pour moi… » Message transmis.

Torno da oggi ad occuparmi direttamente di questo spazio. Ringrazio i miei colleghi Notuno, Debora e Lord Lucas che mi hanno sostituito durante la mia assenza. Ho notato che questa rubrica è stata presa quale spunto da altri competitor per realizzarne una pressochè simile: nessuna polemica, essere imitati è sintomo di apprezzamento del proprio lavoro. :)
Vincitore della serata in valori assoluti Don Matteo 5, in share il capolavoro di Stanley Kubrick, Eyes Wide Shut. Buon risultato per Numb3rs che supera i due episodi Benedetti dal Signore. Il senso di Smilla per la neve supera il cult western Il Mucchio Selvaggio. Programma più visto il GP di Formula 1 in Turchia. Buona partenza dei programmi sportivi.
Nell’ultima domenica di periodo estivo prima dell’inizio delle grandi produzioni autunnali già dalla prossima con l’arrivo di Heroes e di altri serial, in valori assoluti la palma di vincente va ancora una volta alla replica di Don Matteo 5 che batte il film capolavoro di Stanley Kubrick, Eyes Wide Shut, con la ex coppia Nicole Kidman-Tom Cruise.
Il film trasmesso da Canale 5 vince però in share anche a causa della durata maggiore rispetto al serial trasmesso da Raiuno. Il risultato della pellicola è da considerarsi interessante visto che non si trattava di un film facile o di cassetta e non era neppure in prima tv.
Nell’ultima serata programmata di domenica (da stasera andrà in onda al lunedì), continua il successo per la serie di Raidue, Numb3rs che supera i due episodi della serie italiana in replica Benedetti dal Signore, con Ezio Greggio ed Enzo Iacchetti.
Sfida film tra reti minori appannaggio de Il Senso di Smilla per la neve su Il Mucchio selvaggio.
Nel daytime, ascolto più che dignitoso per la Formula 1 con il Gran Premio di Turchia che raggiunge quasi sette milioni di telespettatori in una domenica di rientri e di inizio del campionato di calcio di Serie A.
Partono bene i programmi sportivi a tema con l’eccellente ascolto di Controcampo Ultimo Minuto, record per Italia 1, con Domenica Stadio e con Controcampo Diritto di Replica e La Domenica Sportiva, quest’ultima prevalente di poco sulla concorrenza diretta.
In prima serata e in daytime, ascolti record per Sky in concomitanza delle partite di calcio di Serie A e il posticipo Palermo-Roma, terminato con la sonante vittoria dei giallorossi.
In access prime time infine, vittoria sul filo di lana per Cultura Moderna, eccezionalmente in onda la domenica, su Supervarietà e in seconda serata vince quale programma non sportivo più visto lo Speciale TG1.

Ricordate "Nove settimane e mezzo", il film che celebrò spogliarelli e curve di una splendida Kim Basinger? La versione che è circolata nei cinema non ha nulla a che vedere con quella integrale! Lo ha svelato la stessa protagonista, rievocando la pellicola originale di Adrian Lyne, che durava quattro appassionate ore. "La ho a casa e vorrei venisse mostrata al pubblico'' ha detto Kim, che di quel lavoro non rinnega nulla. L'attrice, che oggi ha 54 anni, rievoca i tempi in cui girò il film scandalo "9 1\2 Weeks", che la impose come icona sexy. Racconta la storia di John, un giovane mediatore di affari, che incontra Elizabeth, una divorziata che dirige una galleria d'arte, e comincia con lei uno strano rapporto, fatto di insoliti giochi erotici che si trasformano presto in rischiose follie. Girato nel 1986, in America non ebbe molto successo, contrariamente allo scalpore che sollevò nel resto del mondo. In Italiasi posizionò al terzo posto dei film più visti del 1986. Prima di approdare sul grande schermo venne più volte rimontato e rigirato, ma nonostante questo dovetta affrontare le forbici della censura che, a quell che dichiara la Basinger, eliminò una ricca fetta di pellicola. La Basinger si è detta in armonia con il suo percorso, non rimpiange nulla dei suoi trent'anni di carriera ed è sicura che le sue esperienze passate l'hanno ''arricchita'' ed ora recitare la diverte anche di più. "Mi affido a Dio, alla mia fede e al mio senso dell'humour'', ha spuegato, anche se invecchiare un po' la ''spaventa''.
