1 marzo: News a raffica sulla diatriba giudiziaria Kim / Alec!

Bitter Basinger-Baldwin Feud - Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger are still fighting over custody of their eight-year old daughter. Baldwin and Basinger both requested a closed hearing, worried the testimony could be detrimental to their daughter. The 45-year-old actor, who's up for an Oscar on Sunday, complained in court documents that Basinger has not allowed him to visit their daughter, Ireland, on numerous occasions. Baldwin and Basinger were married for seven years, and divorced in December, 2001.

No Publicity for Basinger and Baldwin's Latest Appearance - LOS ANGELES — A judge barred the news media today from a courtroom where Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin are battling over custody of their KIM BASINGER - ALEC BALDWIN CUSTODY BATTLE 8-year- old daughter Ireland. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Roy L. Paul ruled that news coverage of the case could be detrimental to the girl, agreeing with with arguments by the attorneys for the actors, who said they were worried that testimony about the "parenting ability" of the stars would be publicized. The judge said he was closing the trial to the public only on issues of custody and visitation. It was unclear when the proceedings would be reopened to the public, but a court official said it would "definitely not be today." The case is expected to continue tomorrow afternoon, then resume next Monday and run through Wednesday in a downtown Los Angeles courthouse. The ruling caused the courtroom to be cleared in a hurry, as reporters from ABC7, NBC4, "Celebrity Justice" and various other outlets, as well as reporters from "The Star," and "The National Enquirer," were forced to wait outside. Basinger and Baldwin were in the courtroom today, but neither addressed the judge while members of the news media were present. In court, Basinger attorney Neal Hersh said he understood that the two were public figures and that there was a "great deal of interest" in the case, but said the proceedings were of "prurient" interest. He asked Paul to consider the idea that "Ireland would be most affected" by having testimony about the "parenting ability" of her mother and father in newspapers or broadcast via radio or TV. "Ireland should not be exposed to, I believe unprecedented media coverage," Hersh told the judge. He said the child "will be detrimentally affected." Hersh said Basinger hired security guards to protect Ireland from "paparazzi" at her school. Baldwin's attorney also wanted the proceedings closed, saying what was said during trial would have a "long-lasting impact that won't go away." She said that allowing issues, such as psychiatric evaluations and other confidential matters, to become public would be a "travesty ... just because of this interest of the press." "The idea is to keep Ireland protected," she said. "This is of critical importance." The acting duo married Aug. 19, 1993 and separated Dec. 5, 2000. They finalized their divorce in December 2001. He Baldwin recently told the New York Daily News the only remaining issue of his divorce from Basinger involves custody of their daughter. Basinger, 50, has physical custody of Ireland; Baldwin has visitation rights. Often dubbed a "Hollywood power couple," Basinger and Baldwin were active in several causes, ranging from the environment to animal rights and politics. The 45-year-old Baldwin, a Long Island, N.Y., native whose brothers Daniel, Stephen and William are also actors, began his career in the early 1980s on the small screen. He garnered an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for his portrayal of a thuggish casino owner in "The Cooler" and won critical praise for his role as an oafish businessman in "Along Came Polly," starring Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston. Basinger, an Athens, Ga., native, won a best supporting actress Oscar in 1998 for her role as a high-paid escort in "L.A. Confidential." Basinger's career started in the early 1970s as a model with the Ford Modeling Agency, which led to small roles on several TV shows, including "McMillan and Wife" and "Charlie's Angels." Her 2002 portrayal of rapper Eminen's alcoholic mother in "8 Mile" revived her sagging movie career.

Press ejected from Baldwin, Basinger trial in L.A. LOS ANGELES - A custody trial between Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger over their eight-year-old daughter began on Monday after a Los Angeles judge threw reporters out of court at the request of the actors' lawyers. In clearing his courtroom before the trial began, Superior Court Judge Roy Paul said he had to consider the possible harm news coverage could inflict on the girl, Ireland, as the pair battled over issues stemming from their 2002 divorce. "We have an eight-year-old child who is the subject of this dispute," Paul said. "The detrimental effects to her outweigh the right of the public to be present." Before ejecting about a half-dozen reporters and several members of the public, Paul said he would open doors again for portions of the trial that did not concern Ireland. Basinger and Baldwin were both in court but sat at opposite ends of a long table, separated by three attorneys, and did not appear to speak or make eye contact during the brief time that reporters were allowed in court. An attorney for Basinger, 50, began the court session by arguing that the entire trial should be conducted behind closed doors because "there's going to be a media frenzy and the person who is going to be most affected is Ireland." Baldwin's lawyer, Vicki Greene, agreed and said much of the hearing would discuss confidential documents relating to the girl's welfare. Basinger won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in the 1997 film L.A. Confidential. Baldwin, 45, is nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar this year for his role in The Cooler.

Basinger, Baldwin: Media Shutout - In court Monday, battling each other for custody of their daughter, Ireland, Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin agreed on one thing: they wanted the media to get away. A judge granted requests from lawyers for both celebs, and cleared the courtroom of reporter rabble ranging from the National Enquirer to Celebrity Justice. Judge Roy Paul said he agreed with the lawyers that media coverage of the case could affect 8-year-old Ireland negatively. He said he was closing the trial to the public only on the subjects of custody and visitation. Basinger and Baldwin married in 1993 and separated in 2000. Basinger filed for divorce in 2001, citing "irreconcilable differences." Her father has attributed the split to Baldwin's fiery temper. Currently, Basinger has custody of Ireland, and Baldwin has visitation rights. Both were present in court Monday, but neither spoke while reporters were present in the courtroom. Baldwin reportedly sued his ex-wife for custody after learning that an independent evaluator had recommended that she retain full custody of Ireland, according to published reports. His lawyer said she believed the trial should be closed because the testimony could have a "long-lasting impact that won't go away." "The idea is to keep Ireland protected," she said. "This is of critical importance." Basinger's lawyer seemed to concur. "Ireland should not be exposed to, I believe unprecedented media coverage," he stated. The case is scheduled to continue Tuesday afternoon, but it is not clear when reporters will be allowed to return. It will reconvene next Monday and is expected to run through Wednesday. Outside of the courtroom, the defunct duo are still managing to log some acting gigs. Baldwin recently starred in the critically acclaimed The Cooler and the commercial hit Along Came Polly alongside Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller. Upcoming projects include mobster flick The Last Shot in September and the Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator in December. Basinger's roster includes the thriller The Cellular due in theaters in May and Door in the Floor, coming out in limited release sometime later this year.

Basinger's custody battle - Hollywood couple Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger briefly met in court yesterday in their custody battle for their daughter. The acting duo have been fighting over eight-year-old Ireland since their divorce in 2001. Both agreed to have the five-day Los Angeles custody hearing held behind closed doors, and had reporters ejected from the courtroom. Attorney Neal Hersh for Basinger told the court: "Ireland should not be exposed to an unprecedented media frenzy." Basinger, 50, has physical custody of Ireland. Baldwin, 45, has visitation rights. Basinger won an Academy Award for best supporting actress the 1997 film "L.A. Confidential." Baldwin, 45, is nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar this year for his role in "The Cooler."

2 marzo: PAWS receives gem of a boost from Basinger - The animals of Galt's PAWS sanctuary have received a sparkly gift from their longtime friend, actress Kim Basinger. Basinger has donated a "large amount" of her personal jewelry collection to the organization, which houses rescued and retired creatures from circuses and the entertainment industry, said PAWS director Pat Derby. The items, including a diamond ring, a diamond bracelet and a pearl necklace, are to be sold at an auction in April hosted by Christie's in New York, and all proceeds will benefit the Performing Animal Welfare Society. "We started off the year rather auspiciously," Derby said. "We are just thrilled." Basinger's donation could not have come at a better time, said Derby, as PAWS is preparing to welcome 39 tigers seized last year after authorities raided a Southern California animal facility. The shelter's owner, John Weinhart, and his partner, Marla Smith, were charged with 17 felonies after officials discovered starving animals living in squalor and 90 dead tigers, including 58 cubs found in freezers, at the Tiger Rescue organization in Colton. A trial is pending, and an army of volunteers is caring for the 39 surviving tigers that will come to PAWS after the organization finishes upgrading its facilities for the big cats. The Folsom Zoo, meanwhile, has taken in two of Tiger Rescue's cubs. PAWS, which operates sanctuaries in Galt, at Rancho Seco Park and in Calaveras County, received a grant from the Fund for Animals to provide housing for the tigers. Feeding them will cost about $200,000 a year, and the windfall from Basinger's jewelry collection will help pay for their meaty meals. PAWS already counts seven tigers, four lions and two leopards among its residents. The new tigers should begin arriving within a couple of months. "These poor cats have lived in such horrible conditions," said Derby. "They will think they've died and gone to heaven when they see a few blades of grass and some trees." Basinger, winner of an Academy Award for her work in "L.A. Confidential," has appeared at several PAWS fund-raisers. In 2000, actor Alec Baldwin, her husband at the time, pledged his $250,000 winnings on the game show "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" to PAWS. Efforts to reach the actress this week were unsuccessful, but Julie Kim, a Christie's official in New York, confirmed that Basinger's jewelry will be featured in auctions scheduled for April 19, 20 and 21, and that proceeds will go to PAWS. Kim said potential bidders can view the jewelry in a Christie's catalog planned for the first week in April. At the same time, they will be able to check out the baubles on the Christie's Web site, http://www.christies.com . Bids may be made in person at Rockefeller Center, online or by fax. Besides raising money for the organization, the Christie's auction also will raise awareness about PAWS, Derby noted. "It's a chance to introduce PAWS to an international crowd who obviously can be very, very helpful to us," she said. While PAWS is getting ready for its tiger influx, two cubs are adjusting to their new environs at the Folsom Zoo. The cats, named Misty and Pouncer, are settling in nicely, said lead worker Jill Giel. "We mainly have native North American species here," Giel said. "But our mission is to teach responsibility toward all creatures, and this situation was so horrendous we decided to do everything we could to help." The two females, who arrived earlier this month, are living in an upgraded bear exhibit and gobbling 12 pounds of meat daily. They seem to be enjoying themselves, said Giel. "The exhibit is not ideal, but they do have a big, deep pool and they seem very happy."

5 marzo: Nuova scorpacciata di news!

Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger Resolve Child Custody Dispute - Alec Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger have resolved their custody battle over their 8-year-old daughter, Ireland, Baldwin's attorney said. Baldwin, who lives in New York, was seeking an "equal share" of parenting with Basinger, who lives in California. A Superior Court judge ruled in favor of Baldwin, the television program "Celebrity Justice" reported. Baldwin's attorney Dennis Wasser said only that the case had been resolved. Messages left after business hours for Basinger's attorney, Neal Hersh, were not immediately returned. Baldwin and Basinger appeared in the downtown courtroom last week, but the judge barred media coverage. Baldwin and Basinger were married in August 1993, and Basinger filed for divorce in 2001. Her petition said she sought physical custody of Ireland, but the two would share joint legal custody and Baldwin would have visitation rights.

Actor Baldwin court case resolved - Actor Alec Baldwin and his former wife Kim Basinger have resolved a custody case involving their eight-year-old daughter, Baldwin's lawyer has said. Oscar-nominated Baldwin had sought an equal share of parenting of daughter Ireland with Basinger. He lives in New York, while she is based in California. The couple were married in 1993, and Basinger filed for divorce in 2001. Baldwin's lawyer, Dennis Wasser, confirmed the case had been "resolved" but did not give any details. Both parties had appeared in court last week, but the judge barred media coverage. Basinger's divorce petition said she sought physical custody of Ireland, but the two would share joint legal custody and Baldwin would have visiting rights. This week Baldwin won his first Academy Award nomination in the best supporting actor category for The Cooler, in which he plays a ruthless Las Vegas Casino owner. Basinger won the best supporting actress Oscar in 1998 for her performance as high-class hooker Lynn Bracken in 1950s crime drama LA Confidential.

Baldwin, Basinger: Custody Truce - A custody truce has been declared between embattled exes Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. Earlier this week, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge persuaded the onetime twosome to resolve their bitter custody battle over eight-year-old daughter Ireland. Last week, when the case kicked off, the judge closed the doors to the press and had imposed a gag order on all matters relating to custody and visitation. Still, some details have leaked out. New York-based Baldwin reportedly wanted an "equal share" of parenting rights with Basinger, who lives in California. According to Celebrity Justice, the judge ruled in the actor's favor on Monday. In happier times, the Marrying Man costars were inseparable off screen. They wed in August 1993, a union that produced their only child. Basinger filed for divorce in 2001 citing "irreconcilable differences." Her father later chalked the split up to Alec's fiery temper. Until now, Basinger, 51, had custody of Ireland, and Baldwin, 45, had visitation rights. But the Hunt for Red October star was unhappy with the arrangement and sued his ex-wife for custody after learning that an independent evaluator had recommended that she retain full custody of Ireland, according to published reports. While neither of the celebs' attorneys would comment on the outcome of the hearing, Baldwin's lawyer, Dennis Wasser, said, "Alec is very happy this is resolved." Meanwhile, a rep for Basinger was less than enthused. "It would be crass to say she's happy. When it comes to the welfare of a child, neither parent can be happy at the other's expense." With the custody battle behind them, the actors can get back to their day jobs. Baldwin, an Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actor in The Cooler (he lost out to Tim Robbins last weekend), recently appeared in the Ben Stiller-Jennifer Aniston comedy Along Came Polly and will next be seen in Martin Scorsese's epic biopic of Howard Hughes, The Aviator, due out in November. Basinger, herself a Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner for L.A. Confidential, has three films in the pipeline for 2004: the family drama Door in the Floor, the thriller Cellular and the romantic comedy Elvis Has Left the Building.

Longaberger baskets given to award presenters - NEWARK -- One local company has woven its way into Hollywood. For years, the Longaberger Co. has provided special baskets to presenters at awards shows, including this year's NAACP Image Awards, which will air at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 11 on Fox. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards honor outstanding achievement in film, television, literature and music and are presented to those who strive for the portrayal of positive images and meaningful opportunities for African-Americans. Bob Alexander, who has worked for Longaberger for nearly 12 years, was part of an 80-member team specially chosen to make this year's NAACP Image Awards baskets. In the past, he's made baskets for the Academy Awards, the Rose Bowl's Parade of Roses and for former President George Bush. "It's kind of a reward for our hard work and dedication (that we're chosen to make the baskets)," Alexander said. "It's a good feeling that the company recognizes us for our hard work." In each awards show basket is a "bounce-back" card that gives the recipient the name of the person who made the basket. Longaberger has received numerous cards from presenters. The company makes copies of the cards, but gives the original notes to the basket makers. Alexander received a card from Liv Tyler, thanking him for the hand-crafted basket. The company has also netted responses from Kim Basinger, John Travolta and Angelica Houston. Longaberger became involved in awards ceremonies back in 1999, when a sales associate suggested the company contact one of the producers of the Academy Awards to ask if officials would want to add a customized basket to the presenters' "goodie bag." "The gift baskets weren't as big back then," said Rachel Mackey, senior public relations representative for Longaberger. "This year's (Academy Awards gift basket) was worth somewhere around $100,000." Mackey said making the awards show baskets is a point of pride for company employees. "This year's Image Awards basket is a Longaberger work-around basket," Mackey said. "It's a larger, round basket, similar to a laundry basket." Baskets made for the awards show have a plaque attached to them. Baskets similar to the ones at awards ceremonies are available to people who host Longaberger parties. Alexander said many people are involved with making the awards show baskets. His part in making the basket -- which is weaving the basket itself -- takes about an hour. "The company wants (the basket) as close to perfect as possible," Alexander said. Other workers affix the hardware and stain the basket. Teanna Hrinko, an employee involvement analyst at Longaberger, said workers were chosen to be on the special awards show team by a point system. She said employees were given points based on their length of service, their average hourly wage and attendance. Aside from being part of award show ceremonies, Longaberger baskets have appeared in television episodes of "Friends," "Judging Amy," "The West Wing," "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Yes, Dear."
