Maples are a large group of cosmopolitan trees, whose bright colours paint the countryside in tender or deep green, then yellow, and red and brown. In North America, a very famous type produces sugar and a very sweet syrup, and therefore it is called 'sugar maple' (Acer saccharum). Most maples have palmate leaves, which resemble those of plane. But, different from plane, maple's fruits are very peculiar. They are double-winged keys or samara and look like miniature gliders, easily transported by the wind.
