La Premier League, detta per ragioni di sponsorizzazione Barclays Premier League, č la massima serie del Campionato inglese di calcio ed č posta sotto l'egida della Football Association.

Si tratta di un campionato di 20 squadre che non fanno parte della Football League  che č nato da uno scisma del calcio inglese del 1992

Alla squadra prima in classifica dopo le 38 gare del girone all'italiana viene assegnato il titolo di Campione d'Inghilterra, cioč di vincitore della Premier. Unitamente alle altre due migliori classificate essa accede al tabellone principale della UEFA Champions League, mentre la quarta classificata accede al terzo turno preliminare della stessa competizione. La quinta classificata accede alla UEFA Europa League insieme alle vincitrici di Football League Cup e FA Cup. Le ultime tre classificate sono retrocesse alla divisione maggiore del sistema della Football League, il Football League Championship
