Not only fine turntables (and amplifiers), but Michell also made the spacecraft

of older turntables were used in "Star Wars" props and models.

This was a very cheap turntable, made in Czechoslovakia, and yet it had a reputation for good sound quality. It could be had with two arm versions: one quite conventional, the other without a real arm tube, but with a long narrow piece of printed circuit board connecting the headshell to the bearings (seen here). Both arms could employ viscous damping (SME and Graham have this too :-), and the platter actually existed of a thin metal plate supporting a very thick and heavy rubber mat.

Nakamichi
Both the big Nak turntables employed a record-centering platter
to eliminate eccentrity-induced wow. However, most people seeing these constructions for the first time react with saying 'wow'.
TX-1000
