w U.S. and Japan.

(St. Helena, Amsterdam).  Ranges at sea in Indian and Pacific oceans s of Equator, and in Atlantic n to e coast of U.S.

Ranges at sea in s oceans n to Samoa, Marquesas and Galapagos is., Brazil, and w,s Africa.

Is. of nw Palearctic:  Vestmann I. (off Iceland), Faroes, Norway, British Isles, Channel Is., w France, coasts of Spain and Portugal, e Canary Is. and Mediterranean Sea (from Balearic Is., Corsica and Sardinia e to is. in Aegean Sea). 
Ranges at sea in e Atlantic from Scandinavia s to S. Africa, and in Indian O. n to the Zambesi River.  One record for the nw Atlantic.
