Rhabdornis:  Affinities uncertain.  Provisionally assigned to the Timaliini, but it has been treated as a relative of the tree-creepers (Certhia) or as the monotypic family Rhabdornithidae.  Woods, edge.  Philippine Islands.

Chamaea fasciata  Wrentit.  Chaparral, brush, thickets.  Coastal lowlands and hills from nw Oregon to nw Baja California; in California inland to inner coast ranges and foothills of the Sierra Nevada.  The Wrentit is the only babbler in the New World.

Tribe Sylviini:  Old World Warblers.
 Blondel, et al. (1994. J. für Orn. 135:367) used 362 DNA-DNA hybridization comparisons to investigate the phylogenetic relationships among 18 species of Sylvia and two species of Parisoma.  The results show that Parisoma is included in Sylvia; that S. atricapilla and S. borin are distinct from the other species and that the Mediterranean species are closely related.  The main speciation events probably corresponded to Pleistocene climatic crises within the Mediterranean region.
