SHANGHAI, China — After winning a design-in for IPTV at China's second largest wireline telecom, backers of a domestic codec believe the nation's top telco will also switch away from H.264 and over to the Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS).
China Netcom chooses AVS over H.264 for IPTV EETimes
One of China's major wireline telecom companies, China Netcom, plans to fully implement a domestically developed codec in its fledgling IPTV network. Use of the codec, known as AVS (Audio Video Coding Standard), is a big break for its developers, which have had a hard time selling it to the industry.
