Detailed review, synopsis and discussion of the film.

  • Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937) Greatest Films ( and ) With descriptive review commentaries and background history on many classic, landmark films in cinematic history, especially American/Hollywood films.

  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) is the first full-length animated feature (83 minutes in length) in color and with sound, one of Disney's greatest films, and a pioneering classic tale in film history.

  • Disney's version of the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale was the second of its kind - the first was a five-minute Snow White (1933) starring Betty Boop (with an appearance by Cab Calloway).

  • Snow White was the last major classic film that Disney released to the consumer market on videotape - in late 1994! The story is a familiar one: raised by a wicked and vain Queen (voice of Lucille La Verne), beautiful Snow White (voice of nineteen year-old Adriana Caselotti) is taken into the forest to be murdered.

  • Doc (voice of Roy Atwell) Happy (voice of Otis Harlan) Bashful (voice of Scotty Mattraw) Sneezy (voice of Billy Gilbert) Sleepy (voice of Pinto Colvig) Grumpy (voice of Pinto Colvig) Dopey (mute) - originally a buck-toothed buffoon named Deafy When the Queen discovers that Snow White is still alive, she transforms herself into an old hag and brings a poisonous apple to the young girl.

  • A kiss from Prince Charming (voice of Harry Stockwell) rouses Snow White from her deep slumber.

  • It introduced human characters (the jealous Queen, the Huntsman, the Prince, and Snow White herself) modeled on live actors, and used larger painted cels and drawing boards.

  • After many (mis)adventures in which Shrek is consistently irritated by the friendly but overly talkative Donkey, Shrek and Donkey manage to reach the dragon's castle (the dragon is a red-violet dragon with a pair of fin like ears, white spiked cheeks, and enormous folding wings).

  • Some of the fairy tale "creatures" such as Snow White bear a striking resemblence to their Disney renditions.

  • These animals serve much the same function as the Seven Dwarfs (and assorted birds and forest animals) did in "Snow White." They provide a chorus, moral support, additional characters to flesh out a thin story and a kaleidoscope of movement on the screen.

  • If there is an obvious difference between "" and such predecessors as "" and "Snow White, " it's in the general smoothing-out of the character's appearances.

  • Snow White herself looked fairly bland, but the other characters in the first decade of Disney animation had a lot of personality in their faces.
