. If this isn't an upcoming Disney theme park ride, I'll crumble my dog biscuits! The canine characters include Dipstick, the son of 101's Pongo and Perdy, and Dottie with their pups: Domino, Little Dipper and Oddball, who has all-white fur, no spots

. Contents Production When production for the film was first announced in early, movie fans and critics were skeptical of its chances of being a success; the concept of Disney basing a movie upon one of its own theme-park rides seemed to many a crass marketing ploy. However, the poor reception received by other films based upon Disney theme-park attractions ( , ) suggests that the success of Pirates of the Caribbean is merely an exception to the rule or, perhaps, that each film is only as good as its makers. . Universal Studios have been combining action/adventure movies with theme park rides for over two decades (E.T., Jurassic Park, Jaws, and Back to the Future to name a few) only in reverse order-first the film, then the ride. Let us just say that Pirates of the Caribbean has all the plot of an amusement park ride and leave it at that
Mooviees! - Pirates of the Caribean
. Plot: Loosely inspired by the time-honored Disney theme-park ride, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL is a swashbuckling high-seas tale directed by Gore Verbinski. Laforest (Montreal Film Journal) It is as thrilling as a good theme park ride, with a coherent narrative that smartly juggles a full continuum of heroes and villains, comedy that seems oblivious to gratuity, and great star power from its two leading men, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp

Cinema Savvy: Pirates of the Caribbean
. It simply sets the tone for this Disney theme-park inspired flick. Pirate movies can be risky since they often are filled with clichés (treasures, princess', suave bad boys), but Gore Verbinski places innovative little twists (curse treasure, governor's daughter instead of princess, main character (Johnny Depp) not interested in female lead) and light sparks of comedy similar to the business model in The Princess Bride takes the pressure off the plot and let's the actors entertain box-office patrons. With light sparks of comedy and extremely likable characters this film entertains audiences of all ages

The Flick Filosopher: Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera
. This is a movie that raccoons will steal to weave into their nests, it's that ooh- ahh sparkly- shiny. If, on the other hand, you consider the Broadway extravaganza nothing more than a theme- park ride for unsophisticated tourists who mistake spectacle for drama and want to see stuff blow up real good if they're gonna shell out $125 a pop, an insult to centuries- long theatrical traditions and poisoned, to boot, by music that's awful and repetitious but so insidiously, evilly catchy that you CANNOT GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD, EVER... Surely director Joel Schumacher (, ) didn't set out to make a theme- park movie... For me, "the power of the music of the night" is that it drives me out of my skull, but surely the people who like Precious Moments horror movies and theme- park theater want to hear these tunes -- I mean tune, singular: it's the same one over and over and over and over -- and their laughably obvious lyrics ("Open your mind / Let your fantasies unwind") performed by decent singers

. Its high-spots Jane Randolph pursued by some nameless, snarling Thing through a nocturnal Central Park, and threatened by a similarly insubstantial horror in an otherwise deserted basement swimming-pool still carry a potent charge, but its total impression is distinctly tepid. However, it does little damage, as the scene can still be interpreted as a subjective imagining on the part of the trapped hero and heroine.) The backgrounds are modern, normal, and unspectacular, unglossy studio reconstructions of New Yorks offices, museums, Central Park Zoo, and environs. Lewton found he could make use of a Central Park set from an Astaire/Rogers musical as well as an office workplace from the 1941 Jean Arthur film, The Devil and Miss Jones
IMDb - Coney Island (1917)
. After various shenanigans at the amusement park, Roscoe and Alice wind up at the beach where they must "hire" bathing suits, and this is where things turn a little strange. This film serves as a historical record of the legendary amusement park in its prime, and it features several great shots that have turned up in various documentaries about the place. The Coney Island of 1917 looks as clean and well maintained as the Disney theme parks today, and this too is poignant: I happened to visit Coney Island myself a couple of years ago, and I'm sorry to say it's not such a cheery place anymore
