THESE WILLS WERE COLLECTED BY A WIGLEY DESCENDANT IN THE USA, WHO HAS KINDLY ALLOWED THEIR PUBLICATION, AND THROW A LIGHT ON THE POSSIBLE ANCESTORS OF OUR FAMILY. THEY MUST HAVE BEEN REASONABLY WELL OFF, IE. HAD SUFFICIENT PROPERTY, TO HAVE MADE WILLS

WILL OF THOMAS WIGLEY 1552

In Dei no[m]i[n]e amen / In the yere of owre lord god a thousand ccccc lij (1552) I Thomas Wigley of Sutton of the parishe of Dudylbury within the dyoces of Herford sycke in my bodye and whole and perfect in mynde do make my last wyll and testment Aftur this fourme folowyng. ffirst I bequethe my soule unto almighty god my maker and my redeemer and my body to be buryed in the parishe churchyard of Dudylbury  /  It[e]m I bequethe unto the hye aulter of Dudylbury ij tapurs /  It[e]m I bequeth to the making of lantons the sum of xvjd  It[e]m I bequethe to every one of my godchildren vjd   It[e]m I bequethe to Wyllyam my sonne one cowe and xs of lawfull money and unto the said Wyllyams children one Acre of wheate to be sett furth unto theyr behove and the same Acre of land to sowe pese theron and one Acre of falowe to be plowed unto hym.  It[e]m I bequethe unto Rychard my sonne one cowe and xls of laufull money to be paid unto hym at the day of his maryage and yeff it fortune hym not to marry I will that the said xls do remayne unto his other brothers & sister /  It[e]m I bequethe to Thomas my snne one cowe too bullockes a baye vylly ij Acres of wheate ij Acres of lent land & one Acre of falowe to be plowed and sowed unto hym /  It[e]m I bequethe unto Elisabeth my dowghter one cowe my best panne my second pott a bedde and iiijli of laufull money to be paid unto her at the daye of her maryage /  It[e]m I bequethe unto Thomas my sonne Wyllyams sonne one Acre of wheate and I will that Katheryn my wyff and Edward my sonne have the setting furth of it unto the said Thomas behove.   All the Rest of my goodes moveable and unmoveable my dettes and funeral expenses paid I gyve and bequethe unto Katheryne my wife during the tyme of her lyffe and Aftur her decease I will that Edwarde my sonne have the one half the said goodes and the other half to be devyded amonge my said children at the discressyon of my said wife. / And I co[n]stytute ordayne and make Katheryne my wyffe and Edward my sonne my full and laufull executors

In Dei no[m]i[n]e amen.  the xxijth of auguste 1577. I Katherin Wiglei of the p[ar]ishe of Dudlebury & in ye Dioces of Herforde. Sycke in bodye & whole in mynde Doe make my last will and testement in maner & forme folowinge ffyrst I com[m]ende my sowle into the handes of god my maker & redeemer & my body to be buried in Christian burial:  It[e]m I bequeth to the cathederall churche of Herforde iiijd.  It[e]m I bequeth to the pore manes boxe of the p[ar]ishe of Dudlebury xs It[e]m I bequeth to my sonne Richardes children vij rudges of wheat shotinge upon the mose & to the said Ric.2 Daughtr one paire of hempen sheets & a canvas / It[e]m I bequeth to Wm Wiglei & to his children five rudges of wheat shotinge into the pittes & to the said Williams Daughter Katherin one paire of sheets & a newe canves & to Thomasyn his daughtr one pewtr Dishe & I geve to ye said Wm. a flaxen Dublet /: It[e]m I bequeth to Edwarde my sonne one haulffe acre of wheat at the mose (?) one yere olde heifer & my mastlen basen & to the said Edwardes sonne Wm. my read cowe & a pewter Dyshe.  It[e]m I bequeth to Antony Wiglei my cubbert a newe caves3 & a chafeinge Dyshe /  & to his brother Wm. my seconde potte & my Read yerlinge heifer : It[e]m I bequeth to Elizabeth my Daughtr a canves & a paire of hempen sheets:  It[e]m I bequeth Katherin Enyons a paire of hempen sheets a newe canves a bowster a bredles & twoe smokes:  It[e]m I bequeth to Janne Enyons a payre of single twille sheets & a canves: & to Johane Enyons a kerchve & a pinner It[e]m I bequeth to Wm. Broke a sherte of flexen.  It[e]m geve to Joices Heines a flaxen smoke:  It[e]m I bequeth to my iiij Daughters in lawe & to everye one of them a flaxen smoke:  It[e]m all the Rest of my goodes unbequethed bothe moveable & unmoveable my Dettes legacies & funerals Discharges I geve & bequeth to Thomas my sonne whom I constitute & make my sole executor to fulfill this my last will & testament

Sicke in bodye and whole in mynde doe make this my last wyll & testament in manor and forme folowinge ffyrst I com[m]ende my sowle into the handes of god my maker & redeemer: & my bodye to be buried in Christian burial: It[e]m I will that my debtes legacies & funerals be paied out of my whole goodes: and then the Resydue of all my goodes & chattels I geve & bequeth to Joices my wife and to my three children. William. / & Elizabeth /. equally to be devyded emonge tham portion & portion alike / also I constitute ordayne and make Joices my wife & William my sonne, my executors of this my last will & testement.

In the name of god amen the xth. daye of July & in the yere of or lord god 1593 / I Elyzabeth Wygley of the perishe of Dudleburye & dioces of Hereford sicke in body and whole in mynde doe make my last will & testament in maner and forme followinge / first I bequeth my soule unto almightie god my maker and redeemer & my body to be buryed in the Churchyard of Dydleburye  It[e]m I geve and bequeth yo Lawrence Wyglei my brother one Cowe and my will is that the said Lawrence shall suffer my mother to have the use of the said Cowe duringe her lyef  It[e]m I bequeth to Roland Reynolds one Canves one payer of hempton sheetes & one flaxen table cloth & one pewter pottinger  It[e]m I geve to Anne and Jane the daughters of John Stoke eyther of them one sawcer  It[e]m I geve to Margaret Keysell one pottinger  It[e]m I geve to Ales Brecknocke one kerchoe & one par..et5 all the rest of my goodes unbequethed I geve and bequeth to Lawrence Wygley my brother and my will is that Margery Wygley my mother shall have the occupation & use of the same duringe her naturall lyef

In no[m]i[n]e dei Amen: the xxvth of Julij in an[n]o d[omi]ni 1596 William Wigley of the parish of Didlebury and in the Dioces of Hereforde sicke in bodye in body7 and whole in minde doe make my last will and testament in maner and forme following. ffirst I com[m]ende my soule into the handes of god my maker and redeemer and my bodye to be buryed in Christian buryall.  Item I bequeath to Thomas my sonne viijs.  Item my deptes Lagacys and funerals discharded and payed.  my very will is that the residue of my goodes and cattels shalbe equally devided into foure severall partes:  and I geve bequeth to Edwarde my sonne the fourth part of my sayd goodes and the other three partes of my goodes I geve and bequeth to my twoe daughters Katherin and Tomyzon equally to be devided betwine them. and I constitute ordayne and appoint Katherin my daughter my sole executrix of this my last will and Testament:
