Tourists, it's up to you to stop the cruelty!
-
The horses shouldn't be drawing carriages in the first place. Many are former racehorses who are working when they should be enjoying their last years in retirement. Note, however, that all the horses, after a few years, end up in the slaughterhouse;
-
The horses are forced to work long hours under extreme weather conditions, including temperatures as low as 32oF and as high as 100oF;
-
The horses are forced to pull the heavy carriages in the congested historic center. Fitted with blinders, they are constantly frightened by the noisy city traffic;
-
The horses are forced to constantly breathe gas fumes and other polluting substances;
-
The horses, some of whom are delicate thoroughbreds, pull loads of up to 2000 lb;
-
The horses stand and move on pavements that cause painful injury to their hooves;
-
The horses are forced to wear painfully uncomfortable bits and mouthpieces;
-
The horses are punished and coerced with whips;
-
No onsite veterinary care is provided;
-
Profit is literally the driving motive for the cruelty.
ONE REALLY BIG
