Steam Locomotive  2-8-8-0 - Mallet EL5

Articulated steam train of the  American Railroad company Baltimore and Ohio ». wheel arrangement 2-8-8-0.

Based on a project of the USRA the group of locomotives ED-5 of the B&O were constructed between 1919 and 1920 by the Baldwin Locomotive Co.

They had Baker distribution, and the tender was a Vanderbilt type cylindrical tender.

The « B&O » used the articulated locomotives on goods trains on the difficult routes in Cumberland and on the demanding gradients of Cranberry, Cheat River and Newburg.

The Rivarossi model has a high powered motor, which works on a double cardanic transmission, which in turn activates two separate groups of wheel units comprising of 4 axles. The chassis in metal. Even though a big model, it is extremely docile in its movement, quite impressive to say the least.,  thanks to the articulation of the powered wheel units, the model is quite capable of handling 400 mm radius corners. The front headlamp is working, all gearing is fully operational.
