Here I list some doubts that I've also submitted to Stan Lee of the Dickies... Of course who wasn't in the band can only provide an opinion, but sure there are many of you that know much more than I do :-)
* How did the Dickies decide to play faster music? Were they aware of bringing an innovation or did they just want to play different from other bands back then?
* I wonder also if they were the first band to introduce this "Quest for Speed"... I read that they first used to open for a band called The Quick. I don't know them, but I suppose that they played fast music too...
Time Set: I'm sorry if this looks trivial, but (as for
the bands that later appeared in the documentary The Decline of Western Civilization)
I don't know which punk bands were in vogue before the Dickies came
out and how did they sound.
I believe that those bands were the classics of California '77 punk like the
Weirdos, Zeros, Avengers, F-Word etc; they played
slower than the Dickies, anyway I'm not sure that they came out before them
nor that they took no part in developing hardcore punk... I've heard that
those bands were very violent and confrontational with the authorities, while
the Dickies didn't seem to have this attitude and aimed to fun and entertainment
instead...
So it could be that the hardcore bands inherited the speed from the Dickies
and the attitude from the violent bands...
Biography: I want to retell the first years of this band, so send me all the information you have about their beginnings from the time they began to play together, until the Dawn of the Dickies, almost... And I'm interested also in Chuck Wagon, who used to play keyboards in their first two albums. Did he take an important part in writing the songs?
* Last, why did the Dickies soon choose to slow down their pace and play more traditional and anonymous punk rock?
PS: I'm sure that even the Dickies haven't ever thought seriously about these topics, but I hope they appreciate my view :P
