Breve Descrizione: Specie erbacee alte da 50 a 100 cm, con numerosi ibridi dalle forme nane o giganti. La maggior parte delle specie hanno steli eretti. Le foglie sono opposte e di solito sessili, con una forma che va da lineare a ovate, di colore verde con un pallore nel centro. I fiori hanno sono variegati nell'aspetto: da una singola fila di petali, ad una forma a cupola, con i colori bianco, chartreuse, giallo, arancio, rosso, viola e lilla.

Durata: Perenne o annuale.

Area Di Origine: America centrale.

Clima: Temperato caldo.

Uso: Si utilizzano nei giardini per aiuole e bordure, o in vaso sui terrazzi, e grazie alla lunga durata dei capolini, viene coltivata industrialmente per la produzione del fiore reciso.
