Breve Descrizione: Pianta erbacea perenne di cui esistono varie specie; viene coltivata per i frutti dalla cui macinazione si ottiene la farina alimentare. Ha foglie lunghe, fusto sottile e i chicchi (cariossidi) sono riuniti in spighe. Le specie più diffuse e coltivate sono: Triticum Aestivum, frumento tenero utilizzato per il pane; Triticum Durum, frumento duro utilizzato per la pasta e Triticum Spelta. Del genere Triticum fanno parte le diverse specie di Frumento o Grano, di Farro e, in tempi antichi, anche la Siligine, il Trimestre, ecc. tutte indispensabili per la vita dell'uomo.
