Breve Descrizione: Pianta fiorita da esterni o da vasi per terrazzi, perenne o annuale a seconda della coltivazione. I fiori ricordano i garofani o le margherite, nella forma. Le foglie sono di colore verde scuro, molto lucide e profondamente divise. L'altezza varia molto secondo la specie, esistono infatti, varietà nane ed altre che possono raggiungere i 3 metri. Questo genere è molto apprezzato per le sue abbondanti e durature fioriture.

Durata: Perenne o annuale.

Periodo Di Fioritura: Da giugno a settembre, altre specie anche fino a novembre.

Area Di Origine: America centrale e meridionale.

Clima: Temperato caldo.

Uso: Un uso rituale dei fiori di Tagetes è presente in diverse culture. Nel Messico pre-ispanico i fiori di Tagetes erecta erano considerati i fiori dei morti e al giorno d'oggi sono tuttora ampiamente utilizzati nel giorno della Commemorazione dei defunti. In Nepal, India e Thailandia grandi quantità di fiori sono utilizzate per la creazione di ghirlande e decorazioni in occasione di matrimoni, feste e altri eventi religiosi. Le foglie, i fusti e i fiori di diverse specie di Tagetes hanno una lunga storia di utilizzo per la preparazione di bevande, decotti, e condimenti, spesso di uso rituale. Tagetes erecta è usata per la preparazione di bevande in Sud Carolina e in parte degli Stati Uniti meridionali. Con i fiori di Tagetes lucida si prepara una popolare bevanda in Messico e Guatemala, che è utilizzata anche in ambito rituale. In Sud America Tagetes minuta è usata come condimento, e come rimedio fitoterapico.

The leaves are dark green, very shiny and deeply divided. The height varies greatly depending on the species, there are in fact, and other dwarf varieties that can reach 3 meters. This kind is much appreciated for its abundant and lasting blooms.

Use: A ritual use of the flowers of Tagetes is present in different cultures. In pre-Hispanic Mexico flowers of Tagetes erecta were considered the flower of the dead and nowadays are still widely used in the day of All Souls. In Nepal, India and Thailand large amounts of flowers are used to create garlands and decorations at weddings, parties and other religious events. The leaves, stems and flowers of different species of Tagetes have a long history of use in the preparation of drinks, teas, and condiments, often ritual use. Tagetes erecta is used for the preparation of beverages in South Carolina and in parts of the southern United States. With flowers of Tagetes glossy prepares a popular drink in Mexico and Guatemala, which is used also in ritual. In South America Southern Cone Marigold is used as a condiment, and as a herbal remedy.
