Nome Botanico: Symporicarpos Albus.

Famiglia: Caprifoliaceae.

Breve Descrizione:  Le foglie sono lunghe 1.5–5 cm, arrotondate, bilobate alla base. I fiori sono piccoli, verde-bianco, raccolti in piccoli grappi di 5–15 esemplari, ma in alcune specie possono essere anche solo semplicemente appaiati. I frutti sono cospicui, di 1–2 cm di diametro, soffici, viarianti dal bianco, al rosa, al rosso sino al viola-nero. La varietà più comune, definita Snowberry caratterizza un cibo invernale per numerose specie animali durante gli inverni, ma i suoi frutti sono considerati tossici per l'uomo. Le bacche contengono infatti isochinolina, chelidonina, ed altre tipologie di alcaloidi. L'ingestione dei frutti può causare vomito e malessere generale. Il nome caratteristico di "snowberry" è dovuto al fatto che una volta aperto, il frutto appare internamente come composto di una miriade di granelli di neve.

Durata: Perenne.

Periodo Di Fioritura: Tra primavere ed estate.

Area Di Origine: America settentrionale.

Clima: Temperato fresco.

Uso: Il Sinforicarpo è solitamente coltivato come pianta ornamentale nei giardini, per via della grande decoratività che danno i suo i fiori ed i suoi frutti, soprattutto nelle due varietà, S. Albus var. Albus, nativa dell'est del Nord America, e S. albus var. laevigatus nativa della costa del Pacifico. Quest'ultima raggiunge altezze anche di 2 metri e come tale fa frutti anche più grossi.

Brief Description: The leaves are 1.5-5 cm long, rounded, lobed at the base. The flowers are small, greenish-white, gathered in small Grappi 5-15 specimens, but in some species may be just simply paired. The fruits are conspicuous, 1-2 cm in diameter, soft, viarianti from white to pink to red to purple-black up. The most common variety, defined Snowberry features a winter food for numerous species of animals during the winters, but its fruits are considered toxic to humans. The berries contain isoquinoline fact, chelidonine, and other types of alkaloids. The ingestion of the fruits can cause vomiting and malaise. The characteristic name of "snowberry" is due to the fact that once open, the result appears as internally composed of a myriad of grains of snow.

Climate: Cool temperate.

Use: The Symphoricarpos is usually grown as an ornamental plant in gardens, because of the great decorativeness that give her flowers and fruit, especially in two varieties, S. Albus var. Albus, native to eastern North America, and S. Albus var. Laevigatus native of the Pacific coast. The latter also reaches heights of 2 meters and as such is also the biggest fruits.
