Nome Botanico: Rhododendron.

Famiglia: Ericaceae.

Breve Descrizione: Arbusto sempreverde e fiorito da esterno. Presenta robusti rami con foglie coriacee, a margine intero, revoluto, di grandi dimensioni e dal colore verde molto scuro. I fiori sono riuniti in corimbi all'estremità dei rami e presentano una corolla imbutiforme divisa fino alla metà in 5 lobi. L'altezza massima può arrivare anche a 6 m.

Durata: Perenne.

Periodo Di Fioritura: Autunno e inverno.

Area Di Origine: Asia, Europa e America.

Clima: Temperato.

Uso: Come pianta ornamentale, le specie rustiche vengono coltivate in piena terra, nei giardini come gruppi isolati o in vaso sui terrazzi per la formazione di alberelli e cespugli, o in serra le specie più delicate, per la produzione forzata di piante in vaso di altezza non superiore ai 30 cm, per la decorazione degli appartamenti nel periodo natalizio o pasquale, scartandole dopo la fioritura. Le azalee sono anche tra i fiori più regalati per la festa della mamma.

The flowers are in corymbs end of branches and have a funnel-shaped corolla split up to half in five lobes. The maximum height can be up to 6 m.

Use: As an ornamental plant, the hardy species are grown in the ground, in the gardens as isolated groups or in pots on the terraces for the formation of small trees and bushes, or in a greenhouse the more delicate species, for the forced production of potted plants with a height more than 30 cm, for indoor decoration during Christmas or Easter, scartandole after flowering. Azaleas are also among the most gifted flowers for Mother's Day.
