Breve Descrizione: Il genere Quercus comprende molte specie di alberi spontanei in Italia. In molti casi il portamento è imponente anche se ci sono specie arbustive. Le foglie, alterne, sono talvolta lobate, talvolta dentate e sulla stessa pianta possono avere forme differenti, per la differenza del fogliame giovanile rispetto a quello adulto. Le querce sono piante monoiche, ovvero la stessa pianta porta sia i fiori maschili che quelli femminili. I fiori maschili sono riuniti in amenti di colore giallo, quelli femminili sono di colore verde. Il frutto è la ghianda, formata da una cupola di squame che circonda la base della noce. Al genere appartengono circa 450 specie di piante rustiche, a foglie decidue o sempreverdi. Le prime specie di querce comparvero sulla Terra nel periodo Cenozoico.

Uso: Utilizzato nella produzione del legname, i più pregiati sono generalmente chiamati "Rovere". Usi terapeutici sono da menzionare così come gli usi a scopo decorativo.

The oaks are monoecious plants, or the same plant carries both male flowers than female ones. The male flowers are grouped in catkins yellow, female ones are green. The fruit is the acorn, formed by a dome of scales that surrounds the base of the nut. Belong to the genus approximately 450 species of hardy plants, deciduous or evergreen. The first oak species appeared on Earth in the Cenozoic period.
