Breve Descrizione: Arbusti sempreverdi caratterizzati da fusti rigidi a portamento quasi eretto di circa 1-1,5 m, poco ramificati; le foglie hanno forma ovale o allungata, verde scuro e cerose. In estate producono alcune grandi infiorescenze del diametro di 10-25 cm, costituite da molti piccoli fiori riuniti al centro, contornati da lunghe brattee colorate. La forma delle infiorescenze varia a seconda della specie: in alcune assomigliano a grandi carciofi, in altre sono simili a pigne di conifera.
Durata: Perenne.

Uso: Oltre ad essere piante adatte alla coltivazione in terrazze e giardini, le protee resistono 2-3 settimane come fiore reciso, e le specie più spettacolari, coltivate in serie, alimentano un ricco mercato e disponibili nelle fiorerie di tutto il mondo.

Brief Description: Evergreen shrubs characterized by rigid stems almost erect habit of about 1-1.5 m, little branched; the leaves are oval or elongated, dark green and waxy. In some summer produce inflorescences large diameter of 10-25 cm, consist of many small flowers grouped in the center, surrounded by long, colorful bracts. The form of the inflorescence varies depending on the species: in some resemble large artichokes, in other are similar to cones of conifer.
