Il genere Polianthes è stato recentemente inserito nel genere Agave.

Uso: Si coltivano le varietà a fiore semplice per l'estrazione dell'essenza, le varietà a fiore doppio di grande statura per la produzione industriale del fiore reciso, e le varietà a fiore doppio nane come piante ornamentali nei giardini per bordure o aiuole fiorite.
