Breve Descrizione: Genere di piante acquatiche, unico genere della famiglia delle Nelumbonaceae. Comprende due sole specie, con foglie molto decorative e grandi fiori di colore bianco, rosa, giallo e rosso, note col nome di fior di loto. Le foglie raggiungono un diametro di 1 metro e oltre. Sono alte da 80 cm a oltre 1 m. Le foglie del Fior di loto hanno una struttura superficiale particolare che le rende estremamente idrofobiche e le mantiene costantemente pulite.
