Breve Descrizione: Pianta fiorita bulbosa sia da interno che da esterno. Tutte le specie, più di 60, presentano un bulbo dal quale scaturiscono foglie lineari, erette, di forma cilindrica. Sullo stelo compaiono i fiori, uno o due, formati da una parte esterna, il perigonio, dal cui centro spunta una corona a 6 lobi , variano il proprio aspetto secondo la specie. Il N.poeticus è alto 50 cm. e presenta fiori bianchi con la corona rosso-arancione molto increspata.

Uso: Si utilizza per aiuole, prati fioriti, nei giardini, o in vaso per terrazzi e appartamenti, industrialmente per la produzione del fiore reciso, anche forzato. Nell'industria dei profumi si utilizzano alcune parti del narciso per ricavarne essenze.
