Breve Descrizione: Detta anche Tritoma, giglio torcia o pianta poker, è un genere di piante della famiglia Xanthorrhoeaceae, descritta per la prima volta come un genere nel 1794. Le specie erbacee ibride hanno foglie strette come l'erba alte tra i 10 e  i 100 cm di lunghezza, mentre le specie perenni hanno fogliame più ampio lungo fino a 1,5 m. Tutte le piante producono picchi verticali, fiori dai colori vivaci ben al di sopra il fogliame, nei toni del rosso, arancio e giallo, spesso bicolore. I fiori producono nettare abbondante durante la fioritura e sono molto attraenti per le api. Il genere Kniphofia prende il nome da Johann Hieronymus Kniphof, un medico e botanico tedesco del 18° secolo

Brief Description: Also called tritoma, red hot poker, torch lily, knofflers or poker plant, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Xanthorrhoeaceae, first described as a genus in 1794. It is native to Africa. Herbaceous species and hybrids have narrow, grass-like leaves 10–100 cm (4–39 in) long, while perennial species have broader, strap-shaped foliage up to 1.5 m (5 ft) long. All plants produce spikes of upright, brightly colored flowers well above the foliage, in shades of red, orange and yellow, often bicoloured. The flowers produce copious nectar while blooming and are attractive to bees. The Kniphofia genus is named after Johann Hieronymus Kniphof, an 18th-century German physician and botanist.
