Breve Descrizione: Pianta fiorita, bulbosa, può essere coltivata in esterno o in vaso; di facile reperibilità e coltivazione. La morfologia dei Gladioli coltivati è differente, secondo le diverse varietà. Il bulbo ha una forma appiattita costituito da una massa interna compatta, avvolta da squame membranacee. Le foglie sono a forma di spada ed abbracciano alla base il fusto. Il fusto è semplice ed eretto, porta alla sua estremità un'infiorescenza a forma di spiga. I fiori sono di grandi dimensioni ed imbutiformi, presentano diversi colori secondo la specie. Il frutto è una capsula di forma allungata.

Periodo Di Fioritura: Fioritura solo estiva. Fioriscono ed appassiscono in modo che sullo stesso stelo possano esserci sempre degli esemplari in fiore o ancora chiusi. Questo compensa la durata piuttosto breve del singolo fiore.

Uso: Viene generalmente coltivato in piena terra per comporre aiuole e bordure.

The morphology of the cultivated gladioli is different, according to the different varieties. The bulb has a flattened shape constituted by an internal mass compact, enveloped by membranous scales. The leaves are sword-shaped and embrace at the base of the stem. The stem is simple and erect, carries at its end an inflorescence spike-shaped. The flowers are large and funnel-shaped, have different colors depending on the species. The fruit is an elongated capsule.

Duration: Perennial.

Flowering Period: Summer flowering only. Bloom and wither so that there can be always on the same stem specimens in flower or still closed. This compensates for the relatively short duration of a single flower.

Area Of Origin: Europe, Asia and Africa.

Climate: Mediterranean.

Use: It is generally grown in the ground to make up beds and borders.
