Nome Botanico: Dendrobium Nobile.

Famiglia: Orchidaceae.

Breve Descrizione: Pianta epifita con pseudobulbi, a foglie decidue, molto apprezzata come ornamentale, non è però molto facile da coltivare. A questo genere appartengono 1000 specie circa, la cui altezza può variare dai 30 cm. a vari metri. Le specie a pseudobulbi allungati possono avere moltissimi fiori, le specie a pseudobulbi più corti faranno solo un paio di fiori. Il D. nobile è una specie che presenta pseudobulbi alti 60 cm. dai quali si formano le belle foglie lucide. Da febbraio ad aprile produce fiori con tepali dalla base bianca e dall'apice sfumato di malva. Il labello invece presenta la gola marrone circondata da una zona bianca o gialla; D.densiflorum possiede pseudobulbi di 30 cm. con numerose infiorescenze pendule a labello di colore arancione, si coltiva in serra con temperature abbastanza elevate; il D. Formosum ha fiori profumati e bianchi; il D. Loddigesi ha fiori rosa-lilla con labello bianco.

Durata: Perenne.

Periodo Di Fioritura: I fiori non sono di grosse dimensioni ma sono molto ornamentali,compaiono in primavera-estate.

Area Di Origine: Asia, Australia, Himalaya, Giappone.

Clima: Temperato caldo.

Uso: Pianta d'appartamento durante la fioritura, negli altri periodi è bene portarle in serra, inoltre, le condizioni climatiche della serra variano da specie a specie.
